@gibby: That’s not fair! Yale can have Philovitist. :P

No, I mean the word princeling is not the right word. Snarky is, though.

You don’t understand. Your basing your assessment based on our interactions with each other, but most of my interactions with you and him have consisted of a reaction to what I find to be inconsistent with what is true.

(In a similar way, you also have this self-assertive tone in cases like these.)

I didn’t know about this attitudinal difference thing, though. Really interesting. I wonder how the two colleges cultivated it.

@WindCloudUltra: LOL. No, really Harvard can have him, as he’s too much of a Zuckerberg for Yale!

^^@gibby “LIKE”

Ha. Well, the good news is that a year of Harvard usually knocks the ‘know-it-all’ attitude out of most people. Except maybe Harvard students in Aaron Sorkin’s imagination…

@Tobias98: Ironically, popularized by Zuckerberg and co.

Sigh. Sorry, I’ll go slink off somewhere. Defensiveness is an instinct, but so is reflection.

@Philovitist: It’s ok. We were all in high school once. If you dig far enough, you can probably find some of my ridiculous first posts on this forum…

I’m currently a soph here at Yale, and thought I’d visit my old friend cc. While sitting here just bedbrowsing around, reading threads here and there etc, this thread davvero caught my attention. I am shocked by this philotivist guy! He is reeeaaaally, and I mean REALLY, disturbing and annoying, and (while hoping this doesn’t make me a bad person) I couldn’t hope more that he gets rejected/decides not to attend Yale, because he really doesn’t fit in with the majority of the yalies I have gotten to know here. It also seems like he has been pestering other threads. And the rude attitude towards gibby and TH; you.just.don’t.do.that! What is he gonna do next, insult entomom too???

What surprised me the most was that it took you guys so long to note what an unpleasant and terribly awful person philotivist has shown himself to be. Although I prob shouldnt lower myself this far, trust me I wanted to write worse things…

And yes, I did create this account (forgot my old nick, it’s been some time…) so I could ventilate my thoughts about this. Please philotivist, leave the Yale forum.

@yalebeta: Although I complained about the tone of philotivist’s posts, I seriously doubt that s/he is an awful person. And I certainly never hoped for Yale to reject philotivist, nor for him/her to leave this forum. As WindCloudUltra stated, all of us were in high school once, and some of us really do remember what it’s like. Maturation is a wonderful thing and it happens with age, introspection and reflection. I wish nothing but the best for philotivist!

QQ

You got me all wrong, dude.

I mean…just read my essays. See how I offer people help all over the forum. Even my countering gibby in chance threads is out of a sense of altruism. Do you seriously think you have idea of who I am because of a few of my posts on this forum?

Philo is a horrible person?
I’m sorry, I just read through his/her posts on this thread and found nothing of this unsavory attitude you all keep mentioning. He simply presented his argument much like many people do on CC each day. Golly, to speak of how matured you all are and then gang up on a teenager. Fascinating.
Also, suggesting that someone may not be a fit for a certain school because you disagree with his/her opinions is childish. Ultimately, the individual in question will determine where he/she fits, not you.

oh boy. I’m not going to comment on the tone discussion… but I will say, thanks gibby for providing some stats! and a child at harvard AND yale? is there a lot of faux rivalry? I’ve seen my usc vs. ucla friends and uc b vs. stanford friends, so I can only imagine what that’s like!

I am a good person. I swear…I’m just less regulated and more arguey on online forums because they are online forums. That’s usually more appropriate for my other forums where basically everyone is quite snarky, but I assure that I’m not like that irl, or truly like that here. I’m the sort of person who feels guilty when he feels good. My entire life is going to be devoted to helping people lead happier lives, even though it means a reduced income.

I — I will show you guys. That I am worthy. And I’ll change how I post here, too. I’m sorry for annoying anyone.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with your tone. ^▁^ I’m sure you’re a good person.

… SO ANYWAY, how 'bout that app count? I wonder if it’s going to affect the total number of admitted students or if the chances for RD applicants will be lower.

@bluenotebook2: Yes, there is definitely sibling rivalry; each one thinks they are at the better school (ugh)! My son, stayed with his sister last weekend for the big game and brought his sister a present – boxer shorts that said Harvard Sucks! Not sure what my son got in return, but I’m sure it was something in the same vein, but with Yale’s name.

@bluenotebook2:

Yes. Though I imagine you get much better (and more fun) football games on the left coast.

edit: @gibby: probably something along the lines of “Yale Fale”?

gibby, that’s absolutely hilarious (but painful for you to mediate, I’m sure)!

WindCloudUltra, I’d heard of it, but my little sister is extremely competitive with her grades in comparison to mine, and she’s just nine. I can’t imagine having H vs Y with siblings close in age! And Stanford’s amazing… though I imagine their app count must have surged from their win!

Sorry for the tangent!
