Yale Supplement Short Answer

So the Yale short answer questions say please answer in 25 words or fewer - but also give a character limit. Do you think being over 25 words, but still within the character limit of 175 is alright? How are other applicants doing this?

Yes, that’s fine.

The 25-word limit uses 6 characters as the average length of a word, with each space between a word also counting as an additional character. (Punctuation counts as a character too.) If your sentence(s) contain words of shorter length, you might be able to squeeze 29 to 30 words in the space – and that’s okay. However, the program will not allow you to enter more than 175 characters.

Thank you very much! I was hoping I wouldn’t have to cut even more words from the tightly constructed answers.

Dang, that is a REALLY short short answer.
