Interest point, however, in viewing the ratio of applications to students enrolled, we have found that HYPS all have been in the range of 20x to 21x recently. - and since Harvard and Stanford have larger enrollments than Princeton and Yale, it would follow that they would have a higher level of applications.

In this case, it’s a small suburb (like Princeton) vs. a larger suburb (like Palo Alto) that runs into a bunch of other cities it’s connected to (the cities that run up and down the SF peninsula all run together). Palo Alto is more interesting than Princeton IMO, but of course Princeton is closer to being a college town than Palo Alto is.

I can’t imagine why the larger enrollment of Harvard and Stanford would have any effect on applications. That might be true when comparing, say, Amherst and Harvard, but I just can’t see how that would enter into anybody’s thought process in deciding which of these schools to apply to.

Any thoughts this year??? I wonder if anyone who had to make this choice last year would like to comment as my S2 has to decide between these schools this year. He is definitely leaning toward Stanford right now but will visit each school in the weeks to come.

Congrats Tripletime~! that must be a heck of a dilemma for your son.
I go to Stanford so if you have anything you may want to ask, feel free to PM me~
