yale yale, pass or fail!!

You can take a maximum of 4 classes Cr/D/F over the course of your 4 years at Yale. They cannot be used to meet distribution requirements, and in many cases will not count towards requirements for a major. So basically it can only be used as an option in classes you’re taking for fun - though under the current rules, any class can now be taken Cr/D/F. If you start taking a class Cr/D/F, you can switch to a letter grade up until a certain point in the semester - a couple weeks after midterm. If you start with a letter grade, however, you cannot switch to Cr/D/F.

Also, getting “CR” (Credit) in a class counts against you for various forms of honors - including distinction in your major, Phi Beta Kappa, etc - that are based on percentage of “A” grades.

It is rumored that getting “CR” (Credit) in a class counts against you if you need to apply to a professional school later on. The college may encourage students to explore subjects out of their comfort zone , but the premed advisor would suggest the premeds not to do it at all.
