Pass/Fail?

Okay.

I am an undecided major, but I am 95% sure I will be going into the social sciences, and most of that other 5% belongs with the humanities. Chances that I'll be in science or engineering are slim/none. I pass/failed my math class, Calc II, but I can undo it at the end of the semester if needed.

However, right now I'm at a B+ (one point away from an A-), and I'm worried that after the final my grade will reduce. I will have one A+ for the semester, which would offset an A- which don't count as 4.0s at Rice. I may or may not have another A+ depending on how my final paper goes for another class, which would offset a B+ and leave me with a 4.0 for my first semester.

However, if I get a B or worse for math for the semester, I will not have a 4.0 first semester unless I keep the class pass/fail. Problem is, I really want to attend Yale for grad school; I'm worried about how they will look at a pass/failed class, particularly one in math for a student going into the social sciences (psychology, anthropology, international relations, or something of that nature). Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do here? I'm obviously going to try to do as well as I can on the final, but I'm just not sure whether I should take the possible grade hit and take off pass/fail even if that doesn't mean a 4.0. I could potentially make more A+'s next semester which could make up for it, and if a pass/fail would look bad to Yale (I heard some schools assume a pass/fail was a D automatically) then it might be worth it.

Any advice regarding the matter is much appreciated, and if you need more information on how this works just let me know. Thanks guys!
