YES Abroad 2018-2019

I just got a notification as well. I received a scholarship to Senegal! I heard that YES as a high alternate turnover rate, so if you’re an alternate the odds are in your favor.

I got my email at 2:04 and I was chosen as an alternate. So excited!!!

Hey @SamanthalJ congratulations!!! So excited for you. I do have a question for you in response to your message about a high turnover rate for YES abroad alternates. Can you tell me more about that and where did you hear it?

@Markal I applied for the CBYX scholarship as well as the YES Abroad scholarship and when I went to interview for CBYX, one of the coordinators told me that both CBYX and YES Abroad tend to have high turnover rates for alternates. This is because many people apply to CBYX and YES Abroad and a lot of people get both of the scholarships. Because of this, they have to decline one of the scholarships, which frees a spot for an alternate.

Okay thank you so much fot the response. Congratulations again @SamanthalJ

No problem. And good luck to you too!!

If you get into both, which one will you choose?

I’m not really sure. I think I would have to way all the options

Did anyone hear anything yet?? I heard that all Finalists and Alternates have to accept their offer by March 20th.

I’m really really hoping I get a Finalist position. Being an alternate is killing me, but at least I’ve still got a chance to go.

same!

Did everyone accept or decline their alternate or finalist position by today?

How early can we hear back about a finalist spot?

I think we just have to wait. Do you know if anybody has been moved up so far?

I’m not sure if anyone has been moved up. Is the alternate position for any country that opens up or certain ones that were ranked higher?

Hey guys! I was accepted as a finalist to Morocco. Like people have said, we had to accept the scholarship by March 20th so I’d imagine that alternates would hear back within the next week or so.

Morocco was my first choice :frowning: Congratulations!

I feel like a vulture asking this, but are you going? Morocco was my first choice so I just want to know. Congratulations!

Has anyone been moved up yet?

i haven’t
