Yikes: "Penn Only Bothers to Consider 1 of 7 College Essays Submitted by Applicants"

Let me clarify what I meant by the not so veiled zinger aimed at the Chicago powers. I took the liberty to assume that anyone who does accept the position of external reader has to also accept to be dipped in that barrel of kool-aid for just as long as the internal readers. That process, obviously, is necessary to force the readers to love that particular genre of essays that separate the uber-intellectuals from the common mortals who do not care much for questions about mustard jars and other mental masturbations proposed by navel-gazers and adopted by the adcoms with glee.

Of course, the above might be more about yesterday as Chicago has somewhat come to its senses and dropped a good (and utterly necessary) chunk of its obnoxious and pretentious uncommonality. Or finally realized that the offputting requirements handicapped the school in landing the students who … had the academic baggage to be able to choose better options.

Of course, it is a given that the majority of the essays are rather poor, but few are worse than the ones from applicants who try too hard to ooze intellectualism at the tender age of 17! Or the one that Nondorf decided to show as a … model for the generations to come!

Now, let me look for my Teflon suit!
