You should be fine...my grades were never consistently has high as your low grades...As I said before, its not grades, yes they are a factor, but they dont make the final decision on who gets in. I know plently of kids who didnt get all A's in middle school, but brought lots of other great things to the table..also are you taking harder classes this year? If so the school realizes this.

Yes, I'm taking High Honors English and Honors Math, but my grade dropped in History from a 100 average last year to about a low 90. The class is really hard, but that wouldn't be noticed because we don't have Honors History.

Sometimes my teacher will put questions on that weren't even discussed, so that is pretty annoying. :) But it's an interesting class, and I love American History.

I wish that I had honors classes at my school for English and history . . . my dad started lecturing my sister and I on history since I was around two years old, so by the time were started learning it in school, I was terribly bored, and the English curriculum is terribly slow. We have an honors course for mathematics which is really neat; I got to skip prealgebra and take algebra in seventh grade, and I'm in geometry now. In this class, the teacher doesn't give A-minuses, so I don't have that problem, but if I were in an algebra class, on the recomendation forms I would be much higher ranked.

Andover08, even though you had lower grades, you did have two very attractive hooks, which probably had something to do with it.

Well, it isn't Honors History, but many people think we should have Honors History. But we all learn the same course, so that wouldn't really be fair.

since people are talking about andover here anyway..i m gonna talk about andover too....well i got accepted andover when i was applying as a sophomore...ended up choosing hotchkiss...my feeling of andover is that it has already lost the boarding school traditions that make them special...no dress code, almost no saturday classes, people go off weekend all the time....also...my cousin went to andover and suffered depression..she ended up getting penn and a less national university....this time she visited...and like the other university more than penn, ended up going there..and is very happy as of now..... her experience is a living lesson that all these schools are good in general...but none of them are good for everyone...so go visit the schools, ask about the schools and make the right decision

While you may feel Andover has lost the "traditions" i feel this is what makes Andover special. The lack of dress code gives a more laid back attitude, and the lack of saturday classes make the weekend more enjoyable for the students, and allows people to enjoy both Friday and saturday night with their friends. I think it allows for a good mix of social, academic, atheletic and arts. While you feel this makes Andover worse, i feel it makes it better, and like you said, this is why kids must visit these schools, and choose what fits them the best.

Sorry--I meant English. At my school their combined, so I often think of them as one.

As for Andover's traditions, I think it depends. Andover is one of my top choices, and I kind of wish they were more traditional, but I also like some of their policies (such as little Saturday classes).

I also love Andover for it's more laid back atmosphere. I was very turned away from other schools where it seemed that tradition was more important than education. I think that Andover is more willing to change to make both teachers and students happier. However, Andover is trying to bring back a couple of it's traditions such as formal dinners, and last year there was a campaign to bring back the burning of the a. The administration struck it down, but I think it got people thinking a little more about traditions unique to Andover.

Sugerkim, you go to PA, too, right?

Yes I go to PA as well

I think that this topic is dead.

You're an Upper? I'm a Junior, this is sort of random, but would I know you?
