This is as untrue as it is true. Here’s how I see the semester system for procrastinators.

Pros:
-More flexible schedule
-More time to procrastinate

Cons:
-(More) overwhelming final workloads that can screw you over
-Encouraging a “bad” habit for those procrastinators who don’t want to procrastinate

This statement is already becoming only marginally true. It’s just that most Berkeley students don’t mind being rejected from UCLA. You may not even have to deal with this question in 20 years.

Notaznguy: Are you on the football team? Are you on the basketball team? Is your friend at Berkeley part of Berkeley academics? If your answer is “no” to the first two questions, then it seems like your friend at Berkeley made the better choice.

How does UCSD compare to the two? I know it isn’t as academically prestigious as either… but would anyone choose UCSD over the other two? Because I saw it a few weeks ago and fell in love with it… it would really be the perfect school for me… but would that be a bad decision to make if you also got into UCLA/ CAL?

woah…notaznguy
Nice stereotypes. fcking ■■■■■■
I got into Berkeley and LA. Does that mean those all apply to me? The majority of people at each school are not like you say.

“How many Nobel winners does your school have?”

Seems to who? You’re making the very flawed assumption that you only benefit if you’re on the team. You’re also assuming that there’s some tangible benefit from Berkeley’s academics as opposed to UCLA’s.

dancingmac: My son is a senior at UCSD. He felt it was the perfect fit for him the very first time he visited the campus. He doesn’t care for NorCal, so didn’t apply to UCB. He was accepted at UCLA, but went with his gut instinct. As a Biochem major, he is still very happy with his choice. (Does UCSD have a strong program in your major?)
You really need to ask yourself what type of university experience you want, and not worry so much about the prestige factor. UCSD doesn’t have the strong campus identity that comes with having a football program, etc. But it does have a beautiful, sprawling location right next to the beach, and has a more relaxed atmosphere overall. The six college system is pretty cool, too.
I think it’s safe to say that SD is a strong #3 in the UC system.

Hey afc10ns, did your dumbass do anything to contribute to the department rankings of UC Berkeley? Did your stupid ass win any Nobel Prizes? Have you contributed any outstanding research? Aside from taking the SAT and submitting your GPA, what did yo do that contribute to the academic excellence of Berkeley?

Your alma mater’s athletics become a part of you just as much as you are a academic student.

I bet you’re one of those guys who hates sports and probably at one point mentioned how Cal should’ve used the money in renovating Memorial Stadium to renovating that sexy science library eh? Thank you for contributing to the passive attitude toward athletics at Cal. Cheers to another 50 year Rose Bowl drought.

“ahaha, my brother showed me a post on Facebook by a guy on the Berkeley rally committee (or whatever they call it there) about how he “pwnd” an Oregon fan after this happened.”

LOL!! I watched that game. Cal got dominated by Oregon big time. Cal also got manhandled by USC 3-30…at home. Not to mention Cal was destroyed by lowly Washington in the last game of the season. Yayyy go bearzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Doesn’t UCLA have a lower acceptance rate than Berkeley? Plus, if you look at the entering freshman profile from this year and last, they literally have the same GPA/SAT averages.

Uhhh, I was at the last Rose Bowl game in October between UCLA and Cal, and – aside from a pretty amazing game – my clear recollection is that Cal beat UCLA 45 to 26.

I haven’t made a final decision about where I’m going yet, but it will probably be UCLA and it definitely WILL NOT be Berkeley. I live in Nor Cal and hate the weather here and I prefer LA to SF.
The whole full scholarship to UCLA and not to Berkeley played a small part as well :D

"They are renovating the stadium, we currently aren’t renovating any library. Get your facts straight.

Also, we may be facing a Rose Bowl drought, but last time I check Cal Football is consistently ranked higher than UCLA. Also not to mention, we actually have our stadium on campus and don’t have to take a bus (or drive) to get to Pasadena."

You don’t know smack about college football son.

UCLA’s overall record against Cal is 49-30.

UCLA’s all time ranking is 22 while Cal’s is 31.
UCLA’s average ranking of the decade is 19 while Cal’s is 20. Consistently ranked better than us eh? I think not.

How many basketball titles do you guys have? 0? 1? Yeah well we have 11 and we 3 straight final fours this decade alone. How many football titles do you guys have? 2. OH BUT WHATS THIS? YOU GUYS CLAIM 5? It just so happens in the other 3 national titles you guys claim only 1 or 2 polls voted Cal as champions. Did I mention there were multiple champions per year during the 1920s-40s? Cause that’s when Cal won most of its national titles. Yeah 1920s, when college football was barely organized.

You know UCLA football might’ve sucked recently, but even a whole decade of crap is still better than the crap Berkeley fields on Memorial Stadium (which btw is inferior to the beautiful Rose Bowl, hence the need for renovation).

Memorial Stadium needs renovation because it was built way back in 1923 and needs seismic retrofit and some upgrades.

The point of this thread was not to rant about athletics, and it is a shame that notaznguy turned this thread into one of those. Anyways I am going to stop feeding ■■■■■■ and get back to my paper.

That’s a bit like saying Cal consistently wins Pac-10 Championships in basketball. Personally, I usually see the word used to imply some type of extended run. Since Cal’s win at the Rose Bowl this past year was their first since the early 90’s, I’m not sure it’s such a fitting word.
