See...I think it's easier like that, no offense. Even with the +s/-s

i guess
but my school's really cheat on weighting lol..
plus it's hard too...

hey, how accurate is that Newsweek school rating for level of difficulty of a school?

Not at all.

It's based on the number of AP tests taken by students (seniors only maybe?) It doesn't take into account the grades at all, or consider schools that don't offer AP curriculum (such as IB schools, for instance).

100-93 A
92-85 B
84-76 C
75-64 D
63-0 E

GPA is done on that same scale

My school is ridiculously easy to keep your GPA up, it really surprises me that not everyone does.

100-90 A 4.0
90-80 B 3.0
80-70 C 2.0
and so on

AP and Honors classes BOTH get 5.0 for weighted GPA. And on top of that, any dual enrollment classes taken at the community college, which are super easy, get a 5.0 also. This screws up kids who take AP, as kids at the college get ahead when they get all A's there and pass everyone up in rank. And it screws me over since I took band, which conflicted me from taking AP Biology, which a lot of other kids took and got higher GPA's for taking. My school is catered to the stupid and it shows.

A 91-100
B 82-90
C 75-81

Etc.

A=95-100
Ab=90-94
B=85-89
Bc=80-84
C=75-79
Cd=70-74
D=67-69
F<67

A=4.0
Ab=3.5
B=3.0
Bc=2.5
C=2.0
Cd=1.5
D=1
F=0

Oh yea, only AP classes get weigted. AP classes are graded on a 5.0 scale.

Gocho, the Newsweek rankings count IB tests. They may have many flaws, but that isn't one of them.

My school:
97-100 A+ 4.3
93-96 A 4.0
90-92 A- 3.7
87-89 B+ 3.4
83-86 B 3.1
....

SO how do adcoms know the raking?
is there some other ranking system that is more accurate?

I didn't know that, thanks sheetmusic.

100-93 A
92-85 B
84-76 C
75-64 D
63-0 E

Same, with further breakdown of the groups for your +/-'s.

Mine was:

90-100 A
80-89 B
75-79 C
70-75 D
Below 70 F

95-100 = A+
90-94 = A
85-89 = B+
80-84 = B
75-79 = C+
70-74 = C
65-69 = D
below 65 = F

Mine's also done by percents, with no letter grades. No weight for honors, and AP courses are weighted by 1.25 for Class '06-'07; all kids after class '07 have APs weighted by 1.1. Cum GPA is carried out to four decimal places.

I'm glad they changed the weight; it's really too heavy. A 75 in an AP course goes into the GPA as a 93.75, and a 94 goes in as a 117.5. I have a cumulative weighted GPA of 105, but a cum unweighted of ~95

Wow....that seems like our system, except we don't get like a bizillion weighted points.

Where is the canadian system?
anyway, i'll post it :D

85-100=A
80-85=A-
77-89=B+
74-76=B
70-73=B-
.
.
.
so on

oh my god i wish i lived in canada.

we're actually graded on three different scales, lol.

REGULAR UNWEIGHTED SCALE
92.5+ | A | 4.0
89.5-92.4 | A- | 3.7
86.5-89.4 | B+ | 3.3
82.5-86.4 | B | 3.0
79.5-82.4 | B- | 2.7
76.5-79.4 | C+ | 2.3
... you get the drill.

HONOR WEIGHTED SCALE
92.5+ | A | 4.5
89.5-92.4 | A- | 4.2
86.5-89.4 | B+ | 3.8
82.5-86.4 | B | 3.5
79.5-82.4 | B- | 3.2
76.5-79.4 | C+ | 2.8

AP SCALE
92.5+ | A | 5.0
89.5-92.4 | A- | 4.7
86.5-89.4 | B+ | 4.3
82.5-86.4 | B | 4.0
79.5-82.4 | B- | 3.7
76.5-79.4 | C+ | 3.3

yeah, so basically whatever class you're taking (be it regular, honor, or AP) goes under one scale and your WEIGHTED gpa is determiend by the different scales... however your unweighted (be it regular, honor, OR ap) are all the first scale :(

90-100 A 4.0
80-89 B 3.0
75-79 C 2.0
70-74 D 1.0
69 and below F

AP/Advanced classes = + 1 1/3 [A-C]

Rank based on weighted GPA. Capped at 4.5. Top 10% is around 4.3 for my class [827 students.]

We don't have pluses or minuses.

90-100 A -4.0
80-89 B -3.0
70-79 C -2.0
60 or lower- F

You get an extra quality point for each AP or IB class, but none for AP prep (our honors).
