Congrats coolsushicutter! Best wishes to you at NU!

Yeah I was just rejected for Cornell and JHU, which I didn't even want to apply to but my counselor told me I should...it's all a crapshoot....

to the comment about it being a crapshoot....definitely.
i don't want to make anyone feel cheated, but i got into cornell and my sats and extras, though close, aren't quite as good as icantfindspaceba's.
i think the only thing i might have had going for me was being a 1st gen?
also, my essay were excellent too.
I'm sorry icantfindspaceba: if i decide not to go, i hope they give you my spot!

Congrats on being accepted by Northwestern. My college process has been a nightmare, too. 33 ACT, 4.94 weighted GPA, and national merit, and I got waitlisted by JHU and UMich and rejected by Northwestern. The worst part is that I know people who had marks and test scores far lower than me who got into Northwestern on ED. Sort of makes me wish I'd applied ED for at least one of my schools...

logisticslord: Yeah, my college counselor basically screwed me over. She told me that I'd definitely get into Cornell and that I should apply to UPenn, U of Chicago, etc. I'm going to see her on Monday and rub it into her face how wrong she was.

Wow thanx for making her feel oh so much better!

I'm so sorry, that sounded terrible. I only meant to say that my counselor was completely wrong in her predictions, but the way I said it was really insensitive. I'm deleting my post.

o no u were not one of the ppl i was talking about actually!! some other people were pretty rude and rubbing it in!!

Well, when I reread my post I thought it was insensitive, so no worries. :)

Next year will be a hard year because the class of '08 is very big, and you can't count on getting in anywhere.

Are you serious? From my school, the c/o 2007 was a lot stronger than my classs (2008), so I thought that Berkeley would be a cakewalk. Guess I have to work harder.

sagedautumn: if you were talking to me, i wasn't trying to make anyone feel bad, i was just backing up the statement that college admissions has become a crapshoot.

class of 'o8 is a lot stronger at my school and all the schools in the area

If you liked OSU enough to ignore matches, than I don't pity you. You got into a school that you hold in reasonably high regard.

Go figure---#1 class rank--large public urban hs in CA--4.0 UW GPA---7APs (got 5s on 3 taken Jr year-the rest taken SR year)--3 honors--plus President 1 club, member 2 others, a gazillion volunteer hours---6 shows-theatre & dance per year---accepted to all ucs-including UCB and UCLA w/ honors--and then WAITLISTED at all the east coast schools- Brown, Columbia, Georgetown and Northwestern! Does anyone get this?? Is it an east coast/west coast thing???

I forgot to mention-SAT taken JR yr-1 sitting-2260

APOL - congrats on acceptance at UCLA. You commented not understanding being rejected at the East Coast schools like Brown. The acceptance rate is much higher for UCLA (instate) than Brown and this likely accounts for your experience.

Acceptance Rates for class entering Fall 2006
Brown -13.8 %
UCLA - instate 26 %

I got into UCLA out of state...but still rejected from Columbia Berkeley... Columbia's really in a different ball park...second lowest acceptance rate in Ivy league history this year =S
