Your favorite LIVE moments in rock/music history

What are your most favorite LIVE music moments (whether rock or something) else?

For me, it’s got to be the Beatles on Ed Sullivan in 1964, as we well their absolutely fab rooftop concert in January 1969 on the top of 3 Savile Row in London (Apple Records HQ):

I also love the Wailers on The Old Grey Whistle Test from 1973:

There are so many magic moments, but I can’t find them live. For example. I love Buddy Holly and the Crickets, but I can’t find “Rave On” performed live.

Would love to hear your fav raves! I am just scratching the surface with these two wonderful artists, as there are tons of other videos/artists. Please post!

Well before my time, but

Live Aid. Many great performances, both in London and Philadelphia, but this particular set with Queen is just iconic. I’ve always said that this is the one event that I wish I had been born earlier so I could attend

Diana Ross in Central Park

The most memorable one that I attended was One Love Manchester. Again, many great performances, but these 2 in particular always move me.

I feel like Live Aid was a big one for me. Nothing like that had been done before.

Another are some of the classic Central Park concerts - Elton, Simon and Garfunkel

You have made me feel very old, but for a worthy cause!

Simon & Garfunkel’s 1981 Concert in Central Park is LEGEND. My mom offered to send my brother and me to this. We foolishly declined, but we thankfully have this:

Live Aid was great. I most definitely remember this.

But George Harrison’s Concert for Bangla Desh was, AFAIK, the first mega-concert to raise money for a worthy cause. No matter: they were both wonderful examples of how music can raise all of our awareness of things. Here are few from our beloved George Harrison and friends from 1971:

I feel a big part of Live Aid was that millions of people were able to see these great performances live! I remember being glued to my TV (my MTV) the entire day!

Led Zeppelin Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert, 2007 at London’s O2 arena.

“According to Guinness World Records 2009, the concert holds the world record for the “Highest Demand for Tickets for One Music Concert” as 20 million requests for the reunion show were rendered online.”

Here’s the best song from the concert:

 David Bowie

Here’s DB and Annie Lennox singing Under Pressure at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert:

The rehearsal video is great too, with some famous onlookers. Starts with Bowie telling a joke  So many cool people in one place.

There is some very great stuff posted here. Will change up the tempo and tune slightly, but the point is the greatest live performances.

This is another one of mine from Willie Nelson. I know it’s the official video of a top song by a superstar., but the complete truth in Willie’s voice is what makes this beautifully simple song an absolute live masterpiece. One of my all-time favs:

I don’t know if this was LIVE, so you can disqualify it if you like (I mean it was live on my tv!!!), Motown 25 Years and Michael Jackson’s first Moon Walk.

1983 I believe.

Not at all! A truly great moment!

As for “live”, I guess I mean not just a recording, but a video of a live performance. Not DQs by me of anything posted here, as I am having too much fun watching/listening to all the posts!

July 13, 1985. Live Aid. I was there (Wembley). Didn’t realize at the time how special that event was.

I was at the Concert in Central Park. Very far in the back!

The concert I wish I’d been at is Woodstock.

and this is my favorite version of Joe Cocker’s wild and totally incomprehensible singing. The captions are hilarious.

I was at the US festival too. The thing I remember most about it was watching Fleetwood Mac and how though the music was great, they clearly did not like each other any more. Except for Mick they kept booting each other off the stage. If only it hadn’t been so hot!

The Midnight Special (which was broadcast live) with David Bowie blew my mind. I’d never seen or heard anything like it.
