LoZ Ocarina of Time (just amazing. couldn't imagine a better game)
Final Fantasy 6
Final Fantasy 8 (i stubbornly believe that 8 > 7 ducks tomatoes)
Chrono Chross

Wow!! Thank you!! I think a lot of people hate 8 and think 7 is the greatest simply to fit in with the rest of the people.

Super Smash Brothers... the one on the N64 in my opinion was the best... Brawl is pretty good too. Whats with all the people into Melee... I always thought Melee sucked. Also, goldeneye on the N64 was fun as hell

Besides the larger selection of cool characters, Melee is much faster-paced, much better graphically, has more stages, more techniques, and makes for excellent competitive play.

I hope people like everyone here go to my university, you all have great taste in video games. xP Everyone at my school doesn't even know half the names of the games listed here. The only games they ever play are modern shooting fests like Halo. Not that Halo is a bad game, though; I really enjoyed it on the PC. To them, though, anything that's not 3D and playable in hi-def just plain sucks.

Earthbound
Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Super Smash Bros. N64
Donkey Kong Country
Super Mario World
Mario Kart 64

I honestly think that it had the potential to be the greatest RPG ever. It's just too bad that the development team had to make it into such a teeny bopper soap opera, ignoring the development of the final boss and watering down the story (especially with the contrived twist about how they were all

Still a great game, though. I guess I'll fill out the rest of my top 5 right now.

Xenogears

Chrono Cross
3 and 4. FF7 and FF8 (tie)

Lunar 2

I looked on ebay a couple days ago, and Final Fantasy VII's are selling for $30 - $45 and I was like w-t-f!?

Wow, well I am old school, Sega Genesis was my personal system(got about 100 games for it too). Thank god for emulators and pimping out other systems to play ROMs, can keep playing to this day.

My List:
Sonic(all Genesis/Game Gear, Sonic&Knuckles in particular)
Mario(NES)
Super Smash Brothers for n64
Mario Kart for n64

(Further FF8 spoilers: )
Yeah, I do get the sense that it could have been greater than it was (which was still great nonetheless). I agree that the twist you mentioned, especially as it involves Ellone- who I find really annoying- was lame. But it was the gateway into the Laguna story, who is my favorite Final Fantasy character and whose romance with Raine was also my favorite (read: the most tolerable, since the standard set by other games was not that high cough 10 cough)

I've heard sooo much about how it was a "you had to have been there, playing it when it came out" thing (the type of argument trendiness is made of) because the graphics were so revolutionary. But FF6 was the first game I played in the series and remains in my top 2 even after I've played later games, so... shrug

lol... don't even get me started with FF10. What a let down that was.

Did you ever play Xenogears? The romance in that game is probably unparalleled in other squaresoft (or enix) RPGs. It was SORT of cliche... but it was still great and really felt believable, unlike that joke FF10.

Favourite character... that's actually an interesting topic. FF8 had really good characters; Squall, Laguna, and Seifer. I'd probably say that Delita is my favourite FF character. That whole laguna side story in FF8 was amazing, though... it felt so mysterious to me when I first played it, having no idea what was going on.

Donkey Kong Country

Super Mario RPG

Super Smash Bros Meleee

Goldeneye (I loved it at the time, but I can't stand it anymore after playing games lie counter strike)

I agree with you sigurros, i just cant go back to those n64 shooter games after playing these new games , its just frustrating.

I dont get why people say Wii Mario Party is more fun than the one for N64. I just don't get it.

starcraft
metal gear solid series
super smash bros (n64)
mario kart
gta san andreas

damn, how did I forget metal gear... I'd like to put that entire series instead of Lunar 2. Can't pick just 1.

did you guys know starcraft is the national sport of korea? lol

Yeah... and also it sucks. Whatever, maybe I just dislike it because I'm crap with the gc controller

^ I preferred n64 SSB because I remember playing at my friends house and kicking arse with Pikachu. I played Melee and I sucked! It might be the controller, I used an emulator and a usb gc and I was just mediocre, of course this was playing without other people(SSB is only real fun with other people to play against).
