Drinking in the dorms is easy, just don’t be loud

Frats are always partying, and most don’t care much about the new IFC rules

I’m not a student, but I’ve been told the exact opposite.

Open parties are rare and most events on campus are closed. C’Town has become a lot less active recently, too.

Was there a trade off with something else getting more popular?

I’m an alum, but I come to campus and I keep in touch with many of my sorority sisters and frat friends. Periodically the University cracks down on drinking, but the private party scene never goes away. When I was a freshman, the frats would give invites to parties, and you were never carded particularly as a woman. I knew a bunch of guys who would give me invites to get my girlfriends to come, and we’d hand them out, or trade them for other party invites, or sometimes just show up looking hot (and all of the guys would yell SKIRT!). Then the administration got super strict (no more beer balls in the dorms, required caterers for frat parties) - so what happened is a number of houses stopped having public parties or had them catered, or made them alcohol-free dance parties. But all of the houses continued to have closed parties - i.e. brothers & friends (and girlfriends of course) having a good time. Thankfully I was dating the president of one of the houses, and I had a lot of friends in other houses, so I could go wherever I wanted with my friends and enjoy a free beer.

Once I was legal, I spent more time in c-town than at the frat parties. Anyone could get in with pretty much any id at Dunbar’s, which is why once you turned 21, you rarely went unless you wanted to drink with underaged friends. The Palms was always very cool because they were super strict with IDs, so it was only older juniors and seniors. Chapter House was fun but was generally grad students, kind of quiet. Ruloff’s was a bit snobby, but the Nines was fun, and Johnny’s was where you went (closed now) to hook up with one of the athletes.

Cornell has always had a great social scene - study hard, work hard, party hard. If that’s not your deal, don’t consider Ivy League. And for what it’s worth, that’s pretty much what work was like too until I got married.

bump. Anyone care to add anything? :p

ctown minimart never cards. then again they only sell beer

also, pixel is hilariously lax on ID

also I guess it’s worth adding that The Palms has closed down.

Fake IDs are against the law. Why has this thread not been closed?

Also, I hope none of you drive drunk. Don’t give me all this “mature” “experience” bs, drunk drivers kill no matter how much “experience” they have.

^lol’d hard

Do you think my European I.d will work at some of these places?
