Your opinion on my SAT scores

hey i got a 1300 on my PSAT (730 on math and 570 on reading) and i was told usually get between 150-250 points more by the time the real thing comes around.
I'm taking the March SAT's and lately I've been barely breaking the 1300's. What does this mean for me?
My college guidance says i need the 1400's to get where I want to go. How much do people usually go up in between tests?
Also does writing section count at all?

Wait and see what you get on the actual SAT before you start worrying. When you are taking the actual SAT you will generally do better because you will be more “in the zone” while taking it. Also, it is possible that your practice tests are harder than the actual test. For example, Barron’s is harder than the test, in my opinion. Yes, the writing section counts.

Well if you’re barely breaking the 1300’s that means you need more practice and need to learn more techniques to score higher. As your PSAT score suggests you need improvement on the Critical Reading portion, so I would study for The Official SAT Study Guide and Barron’s for good techniques to raise your Critical Reading score. I don’t know if you can go up to 1400+ because I am not sure of your ability on the reading section, some people are just naturally good while some other people even with hours of studying cannot do good on it. The writing section does count for most schools even though some still do not consider it. Good luck, just study your best and you should be fine.

You should work on that reading a bit, since I believe that is the most weighted score of the SAT’s. In general, writing is usually weighted the least, but is really easy to learn and get the hang of, if you really study it.

It all depends on where you’re planning to go, in the end. If you’re going to Ivy Leagues, then you better get moving.

Why do you completely disregard writing…?
