I was curious as to some of the particulars of the VCCS guaranteed admissions policies for certain schools.

Here is a link for what each school’s agreement is. It looks like a great option to me, too, Aggie, for many students. As you mentioned, there are conditions, but they are certainly reasonable and attainable if the student wants to take this route in hopes of having their undergraduate diploma come from their first choice of a Virginia four year school.

I am not sure about Richard Bland. Its an interesting idea but I dont think it is the right plan for Son.

American University is on our list, just not mentioned in this post because the schools listed in my original post are the schools we are visiting this fall and AU’s open house this fall is on a school day.

We attended Roanoke College’s open house yesterday and came away with a favorable impression. Does anyone have any input or thoughts on Roanoke?

Post in the parent forum for Roanoke or in the “B” student parent thread. There is a PA mom whose oldest attended Roanoke and she has great praise, but also provided us with a very honest view of the school.

We did not visit, but on paper it stayed on sons list in the top 15. He has cut the list to 10 and it did not make the list mainly because he wants to be in a different region of the country.

I would recommend Longwood as a solid VA state school since my son is a freshman there. Younger son is interested in Int’l Studies/business and they don’t have a program. I also thought Longwood is too rural, but my son got a good vibe from the campus and I think smaller schools can help students focus on academics. It is a decent size 1,000 per class yr. so my son has had no trouble making friends and loves the beautiful fitness center. There are some nice restaurants within walking distance from campus and his dorm room (with AC) is one of the largest I have seen from now visiting more colleges with other son. One big plus for us is that all but one
dual enrolled class he took at NOVA CC transferred (19) to Longwood. UMW on the other hand says my other son’s economic courses won’t transfer since he didn’t take in sequence and he would also have to take Acct. courses in sequence.
