So i have been accepted to RPI and i was pretty sure i was going to go (pending on whether i get accepted to CMU and/or Brown) and today i found out that i bassically got a full scholarship to the University of Cincinnati, and i would pay around 35-40k a year for RPI. I want to go to rpi because of all the research oppourtinities for chemE (im into alternative energy) but kinda on the expensive side.

UC has mandatory co-op, which im not too sure if i like because i would rather go into research than to work on company products. also i would like to go to grad school and me and my possibly skewed opinions say that i could get into a better grad school from RPI than UC. Any thoughts and opinions would be helpfull, because im trying to see this from many different perspectives.

Check whether UC co-op options include doing research. At Northeastern (another big co-op schoo), I think that is possible.

Make sure that you understand whether UC offer is full tuition scholarship or full ride (tuition + room/board). It will make a big difference when comparing numbers.

well i got another scholarship from them so its basically tuition + room/board, and i compared the numbers, and its like day and night.but i will check into the co-op options a bit deeper.

Think Happy?! Will you be Happy at University of Cincinnati? If you think you will be happy at University of Cincinnati go for it–if you think you will regret not going to RPI–then you should go to RPI. S is in similiar situation, his top choice schools have offered him significantly less than $$s then other schools he has been accepted to. He is ultimately basing his decision on a combination of the schools academics and where he will be the happiest. The last thing you want to do is spend four years wishing you were going to school somewhere else. best of luck on your decision.

Contact your admission counselor, let them know how much you want to attend RPI and tell them about the FA from UC. Ask if there’s anything they can do to improve their FA package.
You may want to wait until you hear from Brown & CMU.
Good luck!
