[li] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: see above[/li][/ul]

Wow, I was kind of banking on getting that extra boost from having actually managed to become literate at my completely terrible public high school. I applied RD, though, so I'll keep y'all posted on whether or not it worked.

oovelknoovel, can u please specify you ec's and leadership positions? (did you get national?)

I'll never get into HARVARD! Why am I even on this board!!!

"The horror! The horror!" - haha, for anyone who'd read Heart of Darkness

Its my research novel this semester..."The Horror! The Horror!" of AP LiteratOR! my paper is on freudian psychology and how the heart of darkness reflects the levels of the superego, ego, and the id.

i absolutely HATED heart of darkness. okay, i admit there were some nice parts to it. every now and then i could understand a whole paragraph. but overall, the horror, the horror. dies.

callthecops ~ i took psych too, but never thought about a connection between that and h.o.d. does it somehow relate the id to the corruption, as foudn in the sepulchural city?

The Book, The TRUTH about Harvard by Princeton Review, said something pretty interesting. Harvard ranks students from 1- 6 (6 being the lowest)

If you are ranked 1st or 2nd in your graduating HS class, get above a 700 on all 5 of you SAT tests (Math, Verbal, and 3 tests from SAT IIs), have at least a score of 4 or 5 on 3 AP tests, you are an academic 1. Since only 10% of applicants make up this category, academic ones are a definite LOCK for admission. This is before even considering extra-curricular (which is also ranked on a 1-6 scale), teacher recs, counselors, URM, socieconomic backgrounds, etc.

Anyway, just a little positive insight in this mass chaos in which we call "THE WAITING!"

But actually...something bad...some students on this site who HAS those stats did not get accepted. I am REALLY confused about that. However, I think that those deferrees will get into Harvard RD. I don't understand why they just didn't accept it first round. WEIRRRDD

that's just not possible... hundreds of valedictorians with 4000 SAT's and 5's on all their AP's get rejected... read the previous pages of this thread...

axfr, there aren't stats on people with 4000s so you have no way of telling whether or not hundreds get rejected or not.

just wondering:

is it better to apply to harvard regular decision or early action??

I'm just confuse.

I'd strongly suggest early action, for two reasons.

EA admit rate is around 20%. RD admit rate is around 6%.

EA applicants get another shot at admission if they're deferred.

yeah, I don't think it's possible either, but that's what the book THE TRUTH ABOUT HARVARD said. It just seems too easy if that were the case, you know?

DrEaMPrYnCeZz- I know someone who fits all those qualities and was deferred EA, so being an Academic 1 is certainly not a lock for admission although it helps.

oh man you guys are scaring me
i think ill get in though, at least i can think what i want until i get deferred lol

I know more than enough people that are "academic 1's" that were deferred. They need to know that you are just more than numbers. I am a solid academic 1 with athletic interest in the office and I am not confident at all with the way things stand, especially with this 15% increase in applications.

Hmm I applied to Harvard RD, very anxiously waiting. Anyone know how much the interview counts for? I think I had a very good interview. Also, 6% acceptance rate for RD? Wow, that's quite low. I thought it was 10% or something.

So is it better to apply ED? I'm considering doing that if my SAT is as good as I'm expecting it will be when I take it. And if I keep my grades up.

Harvard offers Early Action, not Early Decision. The program is non-binding (ie if you get in, you don't have to go to Harvard).

Oh, I didn't know there was a difference actually. Does it make a difference in me getting accepted though?
