Looking for merit money for student with a 33 ACT (Superscore)

I’m looking for guidance for a student with a 3.89 unweighted GPA, 5 on APUSH exam, 4 on APBio exam, and 32 ACT (single sitting) (33 Superscore). Student is interested in science; international relations, English. Student scored 36 on English section of the ACT. Looking for money from colleges/universities where no separate application is required (or it is required much later than application for admission). Please provide the full name of the college/university and the name of any known scholarship. Student will not qualify for any need based aid.

What is the class rank?

Complete application due Nov 1

The school does not rank. But the student is in the top 3 percent of the class.

A handful of schools offer automatic full tuition scholarships for a 32. Alabama does. I am not sure about Ole Miss’s score requirement. It may be a 33. (Some scholarships do not allow superscoing. You have to read websites for details.) Maybe UA-H?

More by far offer automatic scholarships for NMF.

Most scholarships are going to require additional effort (essays, honors college apps, etc.).

Merit is not typically awarded for superscores/

There aren’t many well-known schools that simply give a very large award for merely having certain stats

Alabama would give free tuition. Other schools would be lesser known or commuter/suitcase schools.

What does the student want? Small school? Large school? Quiet? Rah rah?

What does the family need the net cost to be?

With those stats, you might get some merit money from Northeastern, UMiami or URichmond. For NE and UM, it is better to apply EA, for UR you should apply by the 12/1 scholarship deadline. Otherwise, there are no separate scholarship applications.

What is your current all-in budget per year?

^^^ Look to see where an ACT 32 falls in their reported quartiles. I’m guessing that a 32 maybe within the middle quartiles or at the bottom of the upper quartile, which would not mean much merit money or maybe none at all.

Much depends on the desired net cost. A $15k per year merit that brings costs down to $50k per year may or may not be affordable.

@Tampa2015 are you the parent of this student? Or what? there have been two people using this screen name which is a “no no”.

What “net cost” are you looking for.

The following thread is from 2015 and lists merit aid offers from various schools ranked 125 and above.

^for 2017 OSU’s National Buckeye is $12,500 and Provost $2,500 = $15,000 (of course tuition has probably also increased)

Temple hasn’t released their new merit criteria yet

Here’s an updated list of the merit aid possibilities for students with a 33 ACT and in the top 5-top 10% - http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1910341-merit-scholarships-for-33-act-and-top-10-percent-class-rank.html

Temple’s scholarships go up to full tuition but are no longer automatic.

Hoping to close out this thread with this update. Student got two full ride offers. I will not disclose those schools. Student got full tuition to Vanderbilt and significant funds from Rice and two other colleges.

I’m confused about why the two schools that offered full rides remain a mystery, especially as that kind of information could be very helpful to other parents and student… but congrats to your daughter.
