Opinions on minor for finance major @ Drexel

Now that I’ve settled on Drexel, I’m starting to think about the possibility of a minor because I will still have some GE / open elective slots left. Because Drexel’s core curriculum includes philosophy and psychology classes, a few of my GE classes are transferable towards a minor.

Psychology
Philosophy
Economics
Accounting
Politics

would be the easiest to get - and I’m pretty confident I could get those without having to take on extra classes.

I’d like to get a Real Estate minor, but it’s 6 classes and I don’t think I would manage it.

MIS is slightly easier than Real Estate to get, but will take more classes than the other 5.

Any thoughts? I’m interested in Public Finance, Consulting, Campaign Finance, CRE, and Financial Analysis in general, and I have a tentative plan to get a Masters degree in Finance/Econ/Public Policy/Public administration/MBA.

I would not, however, get a masters in psych, philosophy, accounting, or politics.

After reflecting for a bit I think I would not want:
Accounting: Simply uninteresting for me.

Philosophy: Could be useful because I could take classes on organizational ethics, business ethics, ethics of law, etc

Politics: Just something I’m interested in personally

Economics: I might want to get a masters in it, but some masters degrees have requirements that during undergrad I should have taken higher level economics courses?

Psychology: Could be relevant because obviously there’s plenty of inter-personal interaction, but my interests in psychology actually lie much more in neuropsychology, drug use/abuse, death/dying.

My $.02: pick either that which is unrelated to your major, but exceedingly interesting to you (philosophy, etc.) or that which serves to strengthen your finance major (IT, real estate, accounting, etc.).

Probably best to take some classes and see what interests you the most.

Check the Masters/MBA requirements. You may be required to have accounting and/or economics and the classes may count for your MBA. My undergrad marketing minor classes counted for my MBA elective classes. (I didn’t have a business undergrad degree.)

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a MBA program with specific course requirements? I was just looking at Stanford’s for example, and I didn’t see anything about that. With a Finance major I have to take at minimum micro/macro econ and fin/ mgmt accounting anyways.

Nor did I see any requirements at UCLA, Stern, or Wharton. And if I were to apply to MBA programs, I would only apply to prestigious ones - in an effort to utilize the reputation/network available.

Honestly I’d just take the classes that interest you and not worry too much about having a minor.

You should make your own thread instead of trying to hijack somebody elses.

Drexel updated their minor list for the 2017-2018 school year and they added some cool ones so now I’m also considering Real Estate Management & Development

In any case I wanted to ask:
I have the option to do either a Business Analytics or Data Science Minor if I want to, and I feel like since these are very forward-looking, I should strongly consider them. The only difference is that for Business Analytics, I have to complete all 24 units of the minor still because none of the classes mix with my major. Alternatively, I only have 18 units left for Data Science because I have to take business stat 1 + 2 for my major anyways. I’m attaching links to the catalogs here:

Would business analytics be so much more useful that it’s worth an extra 6 units?
