0-6 Pharmacy Schools?

I'm currently a Junior in high school, and I am interested in becoming a pharmacist. Pharmacy nowadays is becoming incredibly competitive, and I was wondering what sort of universities/colleges would be a better fit for me?

I'm a Texas Junior, and I really can't afford OOS tuition. Does anyone know any good pharmacy schools that I could possibly apply to and maybe get a scholarship for? I have a 4.01 Weighted GPA on a 4.0 Scale, but I'm only in top 13%. My SAT scores are average.
Critical Reading: 590
Math: 640
Writing: 570
I'm taking them again soon, hoping that I will be able to score higher. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance! (:

Western New England College in Springfield, MA has a good pharmacy program, and your stats would be above average there (although for pharm, I don’t know how competitive they might be) - very pretty campus, good area, 2 hours from Boston, school with a long, positive history - affordable, etc. Worth looking into.

I am a senior who applied to many 0-6 Pharmacy Schools (and got into all of them). Contrary to what teachandmom said, the program that WNEC offers is not direct admission, meaning that you have to apply again after completing pre-pharm.

As far as I know, Texas doesn’t have any 0-6 pharm programs. However, a lot of the schools that offer the 0-6 programs are on the east coast, especially in PA and MA. I applied to:
Massachussetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (surprisingly, it’s pretty affordable, even for OOS- I’m from CA)
Rutgers (but this one is a bit of a reach)
Northeastern University (a bit pricey, but offers co-ops, which is a huge advantage)
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (not too expensive, good rep, not too hard to get into)
University of the Pacific (also sort of expensive and is competitive in the number of applicants that apply every year)
St. John’s University in Queens (I was most surprised how affordable this school was. They offer many merit scholarships- more than I expected, as I got full tuition there)
University of Rhode Island (public school, so not too expensive, and ranked pretty well on USNews)

As for your chance in admission, I want to emphasize that your GPA and SAT scores are the two main things that the admcoms look at. Your GPA seems pretty good, but try to bring up your SAT scores up to 1900-2000, as that is the median range for the accepted pharmacy students.

Good luck.

The college of pharmacy in the University of Houston seems like a great college. UT Austin has one too, but it has competitive cut-throat competition for a spot on their program, so don’t consider it if you can’t handle UT’s rough standards. Those are the only two on the top of my head, and they are both great! Good luck!

MCPHS is cheaper than St. John’s. URI’s pharmD program does not have a good reputation like the other 0-6 programs. USP is in a horrible neighborhood. I have a son and I’d be afraid for him if he didn’t come home on weekends; can’t imagine being a mother of a daughter going there. My neighbor’s friend’s daughter was robbed a block from the school a week before Thanksgiving.

Fogot to add-my son was accepted to MCPHS, St. John’s and Temple with only a 3.4 GPA. ACT 26, SAT Math 610, Reading 550 and Writing only 470.

My name is Abraham and I am a junior in a private, Jewish high school in L.A. I am very interested in the programs, diversity, and beautiful campus that 0-6 pharmacy programs has to offer I am so INTERESTED IN PHARMACY!. I am a 1st generation American/ Persian, so my English is not that great but I am getting better quite rapidly. But, I have recently been stressing over the fact of applying to these programs or not (For Fall of 2013). The reason for that is because my high school does not emphasize on the strength of their academics and clubs etc. I have been in the highest level classes we can be in since the 10th grade.[Our school actually has the UC school requirements, but we have to go to school during the summer too, if we want to get the a-g courses.] In fact, I am taking calculus right now. But, the problem is that our school does not offer any AP classes. And since we start school at 7:30 AM and end on average at 9:30 PM, 6 days a week (excluding Friday’s due to religious observance) it is very hard for me to reach higher levels of secular studies. I am currently self-studying for the AP English Language and psychology exam. And I know I will do well because when I have a goal, I achieve it. But what worries me is: I don’t know if I am heading on the right track. We have no school counselor to help for this stuff! Also, my parents are very busy since we have a family of 8, so they do not really have time for this, so I have to take care of myself and my 4 younger siblings. I have also tried to make school clubs/groups; however, my school does not allow it. I even got a petition from many kids in my school that they wanted one of these groups, but no matter how many times i tried my school turned me down. Still, I have gone out of way to help my community and temple (volunteering), fundraising, setting up, tutoring, recycling, etc. Also, I took a practice ACT test and got something like a 28-29, but I am sure I can bump it up to over 30. Also, I forgot to mention I am planning on also self-studying AP Biology, Chemistry, and probably Calculus in my senior year (We are going to end at average 10:15 a night, so it will be pretty hard, but manageable). And if it helps I understand 3 languages, almost 4.

So I was wondering can you please help me.

What can I do to improve my application?

What should I be doing in my summer/ free time etc. (I mean, when I am not in summer school or studying)?

What should I do about the Clubs, and AP’s?

Please tell me of anything you think that can help me; I am forever grateful!

Thanks, Abraham.

if your a high school junior you need to focus on getting into a college to complete undergraduate work(for pharmacy, you don’t need a bachelors, just about 70 credits of pre requisites) first before even thinking about how to get a scholarship for pharmaceutical school because its your college GPA is science (especially chemistry) that matters not your high school GPA.

The poster is talking about 0-6 pharmacy schools meaning there is no undergrad.
