According to CNN, geophysics majors enjoy 0% unemployment:

4 degrees with 0% unemployment - Multiple job offers for geophysics students (4) - CNNMoney

Do you think the same goes for geology?

Also, same article states that pharmacology is 0 unemployment too. Frankly sounds strange to me, given that big pharma is not hiring. Thoughts?

Nothing but media propaganda. Every industry has some percentage of unemployment. It’s like saying the unemployment rate is 8%, but the actual unemployment rate is somewhere around 20%. The 8% doesn’t factor in the people who gave up or are working part-time.

My D is majoring in Geology (geosciance). She already knows a masters is a must. Geophysics is definately different but, I read that the outlook for jobs in geoscience is good according to the Dept of Labor. Let’s hope the job market is much better in 4-6 years.

The geosciences though relies a lot on the commodities market though. Currently, commodities are hot. Oil, Natural gas, gold, copper, silver, platinum, lithium. There are other opportunities in geology, however the best ones are in the commodities market. But, what happens if the commodities markets falter? Demand for oil, gas and other commodities fall? The jobs go with it. So the jobs have a boom/bust cycle, since its directly reliant on the markets. So while we are currently in a boom cycle with the value of the dollar dropping, and price of gold is skyrocketing, and globalization of developing countries, in a few years, all of that can easily come crashing down. So tread softly, and follow the commodities market.
