Introduce yourselves, who knows some of us could be classmates next year!

I’m Henry and will apply RD to Bentley in hope of gaining a scholarship.

The only thing that really turns me off about Bentley is the bad male-female ratio (59-41). Girls must not be all that into business. At a party of 30 people, there will 18 males compared to 12 females. Pretty harsh. Otherwise Bentley looks pretty good.

Anyone else applying?

I am. I applied early action.

ny10804, if you aren't an introverted nerd who never gets out, you can have a fine social life. First, the male/felmale ratio at Bentley isn't that bad compared to some other places. Also, there are TONS of girls very nearby in many schools such as Brandeis, where you can take some liberal arts courses.

My S applied early action. Hoping to hear soon!

taxguy, that's encouraging. I've heard a lot of business schools can be bad that way (socially). Relative to me, Bentley's M-F ratio is the worst, but I guess I should keep it in perspective.

i applied early action...wicked anxious to hear back. i don't want to wait til jan!

Hey, I'm a freshman here at Bentley right now and the guy to girl ratio is really not that bad. There are plenty of girls, and the quality makes up for the quantity. =P

Bentley's the one school I haven't heard from yet...
I got accepted northeastern, fordham, and uconn
and deferred villanova

so i'm pretty sure i will be accepted at bentley, just hope that they give me moneyz

I don't think we hear until January 15th. Wish we could hear sooner so my son can finalize his choices. Good Luck to all.

I found out on December 15th.

I am in!

That's for early decision. Early action is jan 15th

i go to bentley. if you're not a wasp that is into playing beer-pong every single weekend, dont go here.

the social life gets utterly repetitive and boring. however, it is an acconting factory so if u like accy and cant get into a target school, then come here.

if u have any questions feel free to PM me.

you dont like it?

My son is majoring in financial planning and LOVES the program and the school. Yes, he isn't enamored about the social life, but he has a girlfriend back home; thus, he doesn't make any efforts to meet ladies.

bentley will come off with a good first impression when you go on their tour, but they lack in several areas:

food - their campus dining is one of the worst for the money. this is due to the policy our previous president put in place whereby the school takes 40% off the dining plans compared to only 10-20% at other schools. when you take that much from the catering companies they have no other choice but to serve us crap food.

diversity - too many cookie-cutter type kids come here, and though there is some diversity most people will only with their own kind, if they are lucky enough to find it.

campus - looks nice at first glance but it is closed off and it takes forever to get anywhere with public transportation. the one good thing is their 30 minute shuttle into harvard square. however, the campus is just way too small.

Let me give you another opinion from Krazyk. My son is a grad student there; thus, we have his prior college experience not to mention my other two kids' college experiences who are in different schools.

Food: Although college food tends to be very mediocre, we found food at Bentley better than where he did is undergraduate work and better than one of the colleges that my daughter attends. It was also better than a number of other schools that we have seen. Thus, you really need a comparison before you make a carte-blanche statement. I can say that Bentley food really isn't that bad as college food goes, which isn't saying much.

Also for comparison, we looked at Syracuse University for my daughter. We were charged $14.65 for lunch PER PERSON. Talk about rip off! Believe me, Bentley is a bit of a steal compared to some schools.

Diversity: It depends on what you mean. If you are looking for a lot of Black and Hispanic kids or very poor kids, you won't see many. This is a school that consists of kids from successful parents who are mostly from white and asian backgrounds. However, you won't see an enormous amount of underrepresented minorities at many private schools and LACs.There are a lot of foreign students here though. Thus, if you count the international students, there is a lot of diversity.

Campus: My son loves the campus. He thinks it's a great size, always well- maintained and has terrific facilities.

Education: Here is where Bentley shines. My son loves his courses and loves the trading room there. He thinks that they have great facilities, which are well-maintained. This is NOT always the case with other schools. Also being in Boston and near a lot of other schools such as Brandeis, gives a lot of opportunities (both academic and social) for those that want it.

He also felt that the undergraduate programs, especially in accounting and finance, were quite strong from what he can ascertain. He tutors some undergrads in accounting and found them to be quite sharp. My son was very impressed with the other grad students, who he found to be sharp.

Small school: Bentley is a small school that has a strong niche in business. If you are not academically focused, don't go there. If you don't want some aspect of business, don't go there. If you want to party or have a big party school, don't go there. If being in a school of under 3,000 students will make you feel claustrophobic, don't go there. However, if you want strong programs in most business areas, strong liberal arts, great location and nurturing environment, not to mention good job placement and prospects then it will be a good school for you.

Bottom line: Bentley doesn't try to be all things to all people. What it does, it does well.

See my "Overview of Bentley" in the College Visit forum.

My son is a freshman at Bentley. He is quite satisfied with the school. He is finding it academically challenging. He was always one who obtained excellent grades with minimal effort. He finds he has to work harder now to obtain those grades.

As far as the food, he says it is "okay". This is coming from a very picky eater. As far as the social life goes, he has a girlfriend from home as well and spends most weekends with her either at Bentley or at her school.
But he does say that the dorms are extremely noisy on the weekends because of the drinking to excess. (He is not much of a partyer.)

He likes the school so much that he is aiming to be accepted into their five-year program, where he would continue for an extra year for his master's.

I agree with taxguy about comparison to other schools. My daughter(twin) is a freshman at Holy Cross. She does not like the food at all. Claims it gives her stomach aches. Also, the dorms at Bentley are air-conditioned, not so at Holy Cross. My daughter has had several mice in her dorm room(yuch!). Holy Cross also charged students for their one-night orientation last spring($250). Bentley's two night orientation was at no-charge. Holy Cross costs a bit more than Bentley, so were are definitely getting more for our money at Bentley. My daughter also complains about the excessive partying and students constantly being transported to the hospital for intoxication. I get the feeling there is a heavy party atmosphere at most schools. (My oldest son is a senior at St. Michael's in Vermont, and it's the same there.)

I would highly recommend Bentley if one is pursuing business.

So we find out in like a week I guess

hopefully in 4 days!

Good luck to all of you.
