Accepted Students Day: Saturday 4/5/08

who is going?

I am... I've gotta get up at 4:30 tomorrow morning!

All saw all you guys here!!! And I was stealing the food and drinks they had for you lol.

What did you think of Bentley?

It was an amazing day! Great campus with a lot of friendly, smart people.

I LOVED BENTLEY! I'm about 90% sure I'll be attending it next fall.

Everything looks so new...The dorms were nice.. The facilities were great. I loved the Fenway (or some other soph/junior) suites. They were HUGE.

What I didn't like were the ridiculous amount of stairs you need to walk up, but I'm sure everyone gets used to that.

It also seems like there are A LOT of very wealthy people considering Bentley and I don't know if that's a bad thing, but I don't know how well I would get along with some.

Anyway, I bought the nicest sweater they ahd and I'm pretty excited.

I was surprised by how much I liked it! but it didnt seem like many of the students took advantage of its location. very few talked about going into the city, doing things, meeting people or anything..do most kids not even go into the city? oh and another strike is just that it seemed like a lott of white boys who wanna major in business. whats the guy to girl ration there anyways?

Trust me on this: Bentley has a very nice campus. In fact, for such as relatively small student body of about 5,000 students, it has a large campus for its size. All buildings are immaculately maintained as are the grounds.

I would have to agree

so after all, do u guys think it is worth to go there?

It definitely is FOR ME. I was offered admission into the honors program and a half tuition scholarship so that certainly makes an already appealing school, more attractive, but I think the school's worth will probably differ from person to person.

Freestyla: Yeah the stairs are awesome!!! (I hope you could detect my sarcasm there lol) But you will get used to them and eventually just blame all your problems on them.

Yes there are some rich people but I wouldn't say "A LOT". Once your here you will notice them but there is plenty of other people.

I am going to be living in Fenway next year. (Fenways on lower near the gym) Its going to be awesome! But the dorm im living in now (Miller) is actually really good too.

smoltz08: plenty of people take advantage of the location. i know me and my friends go into cambridge/boston all the time. i mean sometimes the shuttle is annoying but often times it is packed. oh about doing things, meeting people, etc. there is more than enough on campus to do and plenty of people to meet.

yes there are a lot of "white boys" but there are tons of diverse kids and international kids here too. the guy to girl ratio over all is about 60/40 but its different for every class. to tell you the truth you dont even notice the ratio.

wgong: yes it is definitely worth it to come!! :)

one quick question, do a lot of people drive in bentley? is there anyway for a freshman to have a parking permission?
since it is a so small schoo. im really wondering about this. pls let me know

"trust me on this"

lol...

whenever someone says this as the first words coming out of their mouth i bring my guard up.

that said, bentley is a nice campus aside from their hilliness.

LOL, I was wondering about that 'trust' opening too, since it seemed everyone was in agreement about Bentley having a very nice campus, but that's okay, it's good of taxguy to be so helpful during tax season and I appreciate his comments.

I felt there was a pretty good range of diversity on Saturday and I didn't notice and am not sure how you could tell how rich people were or weren't. Seemed like a typical group of high school seniors to me and some of them travelled quite far to attend. I think the prez said from Hong Kong, Australia, California, along with other places.

Do the shuttles run all day? So, if someone wanted to ride up the hill, they could? Or not?

I don't know the answer to freshman parking, but another thing I like about Bentley is all those parking lots. Some schools (especially in urban areas) aren't set up good for coming and going and family visits, etc.

I also like how Bentley seems to reward students for doing well, in things like the housing lottery. For example, if you get caught doing something wrong, you lose points. If you make the dean's list, you gain points, that type of thing.

wgong: umm there is a good amount of people who bring their cars to campus but very few people actually drive up to class cause the campus is so small. i am a freshman right now and i havent had my car, and neither have my friends and we have had plenty to do. having a car is just a convience when you want to go to the grocery store or drive home or something. it is possible for freshman to get parking permission but typically they dont let you unless you have a good reason. and a good reason means either you have a job off-campus, or you have a medical problem (i.e. you need to go to the doctor on a regular basis). yeah we are a small school but that also means there is a limited amount of parking too. thats why they limit freshman parking, plus they want freshman to get a feel for the campus and the surrounding area without a car.

krazyk: yeah bentley's campus is pretty nice, it is, as one of my friends put it, "aesthetically pleasing" compared to some other much older schools. the only annoying thing is the hills but its not that bad once you get used to it.

chattanya: yeah bentley is trying really hard to increase diversity, both racially and geographically and i think as the years go on we will notice this more with every incoming class.

yes the shuttles run all day long. from sunday-thursday they are every hour from 7am to 12:30am (after midnight) and on friday on saturday the shuttle runs every half hour starting 7am and going until 3:30am.

yeah i know schools that are in boston itself that have no parking lots and it is insanely expensive for people there to bring their cars because they would have to pay to keep them in a parking garage.

its nice that bentley rewards the students like that for housing, i think they just started that a couple years ago.

i heard the dorm is pretty, i mean really small for freshmen and also sometimes is triple room rite? so i called the office, they told it is still okay if i really wanna choose to live off campus. guess they need more room for students anyways.
but wat im trying to ask is that do u guys recommend to live off campus?
or do u guys think it will be good to live off campus? im that type of guy that dont wanna get bothered by other ppl most of times. but i also know the disadvantage is that i probably wont be able to make a lot friends in school.
plus, if i get my own place i will be able to get a parking no matter wat.
just wanna hear u guys' opinions. pls let me know.
btw, wat is the hill about? there is a hill in bentley???
i talked with the bentley swimming head coach. she told me im qualified. but again, my question is that is the swimming team of bentley good anyways? or just ppl will think only losers goes there?
is there a lot asians in bentley? ive been to umass amherst couple times. they have a lot parties and stuff. i actually really liked there. but i just think if i goi there i will never study... tooooo much fun.
but just wondering if bentley have parties and asian clubs too. cuz i know that bentley is really really small.

and thx for u guys taking time to answer the questions above!!!!
its really helpful for us as seniors to understand the school we might go to.
u guys r really great helpers!! thx a lot!!!
if anybody here knows about babson. i have a thread in babson's post. pls also help me to reply me.

sounds like you havent even visited it yet! that might be a good idea....considering you might spend 4 years there.....yeahh do that. and the dorms are actually quite large compared to most, and if youre in a triple, the room will be larger than a double, they dont stick 3 in a double. It seems like living on campus seems like a good choice cause its where everything is..doesnt seem like much goes on in waltham.

ohh really? i really wanna visit there. but i cant. im an international student. and goes to a boarding school in nj. its almost impossible for me to go there visit. takes too much time and effort. i dont even drive. guess need more help from u guys.

Smoltz08 notes,"sounds like you havent even visited it yet! that might be a good idea....considering you might spend 4 years there"

Response: I am truly aghast that folks will spend over $100,000 for their undergraduate education and not even visit the school before they apply there. It is just unimaginable.

yeah i think you should visit too if its manageable. I didnt visit all mine before I applied cause I was waitin to see what scholarships they would all give me and bentley gave me trustee so i decided i should visit it. and im glad i did.
