Hi all, I'm registered for 09-217 Organic Chem I (8:30 class...)

For those who have already taken this class, can you tell me how to approach it? How many hours/week did you dedicate to homework/lab/studying, etc.? Did this class lead you to be uber stressed out? Anything important the rest of us need to know? I'm a little nervous about time management my freshman year...

bump for someone in for a lot of work!

I guess I could drop it later on, if it gets too overwhelming, but I wanted to keep my # of units above 45. Argh...

I think that most of the people on the board are CIT and CS, so no one takes o-chem. Have you asked Pattis what other students have said about it?

...to be honest I doubt that it will be that overwhelming...I mean as long as you aren't overloading and the rest of your schedule isn't super hard it might be worth doing. I'm thinking of taking the med school prerequisites so I might take o chem at some point too. It would be cool to be done with arguably the hardest one after my first semester. I'd expect to maybe be working a little harder then some other freshman though.

If you have good time management skills and anticipate not having major adjustment issues (you've lived away from home at a camp for 3 weeks during the summer or something), you're probably better off taking O-Chem first semester than second semester when you take 15-251, because that's a really time consuming class, too. Of course, Pattis's letter said students take 15-251 fall of sophomore year, so that may change.
