1 College Hour = ?

Im always hearing ill get X amount of credits if i score an X or greater on a exam for a higher level class(AP/IB). I calculated my total hours awarded for the school i want to go to and its 21 hours.

Is one hour = 1 class or....what? :)

also, side question.

Are there 7 periods of classes per semester like in high school, in college? thx.

You'd die with 7 periods per semester in college.

1 hour is more or less 1 credit. I've taken 7 classes in one semester before (it was actually the required courseload for that semester) for a total of 18.5 credits. A typical student at a typical college would normally take 5 courses a semester for about 15 credits though. Unlike high school, you won't take seven 45 minute classes in a day for five days a week. Instead, over the course of a week, you'll take about 5 classes for a total of only about 15 hours.

I think the general rule in college is for every hour you spend in class, you're supposed to spend two doing homework or studying.

I heard the same rule ^^

That "rule of thumb" is in my opinion a bunch of BS and highly variable...

Anyway...

1 credit=1 hour/week. A 3-credit class meets for 3 hours a week. Labs are usually counted as 1-credit. So a class that meets 3 hours a week for lecture and has a 3 hour lab is usually 4 credits.

There are no "periods" in college; well, except once a month for all the females. Class times are highly variable; some days you might be loaded with class, others you might be virtually free. Some days I start at 9 am, some days I start at 2 pm.

yea, that's true......boarding schools are similar too. You don't get a lot of homework in college either! (that's the Best part, arguably!)
