1 day to make 1 decision..

I was planning to attend UCLA as an art major, but i was just unwaitlisted for design at CMU. I was originally accepted for art at CMu with a 15k scholarship, but i declined for ucla. Now im thinking a degree in design would be way more marketable. Then again its only undergraduate... Does anyone have any info on cmu design, such as admission statistics and the quality of the education? I only have one day to decide... and thats minus the 3 hr time difference.. :(

CMU and UCLA both have very strong design programs, and I feel like they’re equally good.
I’m not sure if you got into UCLA for fine arts or design/media arts, but I would recommend CMU design over UCLA fine arts, if you don’t feel strongly towards design or fine arts.

In regards to CMU’s acceptance rate, “Approximately 500 students apply to the School of Design each year. Our target number for incoming freshmen is 43. Thus, we have approximately a 9% acceptance rate.” However, not everyone accepts their offer for admission, so the acceptance rate should be higher than that. For instance, my friend and I declined CMU’s offer.

CMU’s design program is quite small but very rigorous. Someone from my art studio went there, and she said that all or almost all of the professors are people who design in their fields, outside their teaching. They give helpful feedback, but they do not “hold your hand” to help you improve. CMU is also known for a rather competitive environment, too, so you will be pushed to improve your design skills.
