Hello everyone,
I heard, that there are some universities that may give an international student 100% of financial aid in certain situations, when a student truly needs that much of money. But could you please let me know whether this 100% includes tuition, room and supplies, or is this 100% “just” for tuition?
I will be thankful for any kind of information that you provide me for that question.
Some schools will provide 100% of “demonstrated need” as determined by the school. In almost every case, however, there will be at least a small expected student contribution, meaning the aid given does not cover 100% of all school expenses. The student contribution would come from savings and/or summer earnings.
The schools that provide 100% of demonstrated need are some of the most selective, so the first hurdle to clear is being admitted.
100% need includes tuition, fees, room&board (=“housing and food”), and may or may not include books. You have buy your own transportation, clothes, and health insurance.
You can also earn a full ride scholarship based on test scores, not need - there are more full tuition scholarships, but full rides exist too. Full tuition covers 100% tuition and you have to pay the rest (12-16K). Full ride covers everything. You typically need to score 32 on the ACT or 1400 on the SAT (CR+M), although a few have thresholds.
