125th Anniversary Scholarship?

I very surprisingly got this award, shocked the Bryn Mawr gave out merit aid. They said further info would be available next week but I’m curious if anyone knows if this award entails anything else?

I was named an Anniversary Scholar as well…does anyone know how many were chosen?

I was also named an Anniversary Scholar (and also very surprised) and would love to know how many of us there are…

Congratulations everybody!!!

Last year’s Common Data Set reports that Bryn Mawr awarded $622,482 of institutional financial aid which was not based on need. At a rate of $20,000 per scholarship, that makes at most 31 scholarship recipients who decided to enroll. (We have a few other scholarships for returning students, like literary awards and such, but they are valued between $100 to $2,000 each and probably don’t account for a big chunk of those $622,482.)

On the other hand, that number excludes merit scholarships that replaced need-based financial aid, so the real number of “scholarship” recipients might be much higher. There’s currently a trend in higher education to relabel need-based aid as merit aid because that’s supposed to have a positive impact on yield rates. I was amused when Mount Holyoke offered me a leadership scholarship (which was deducted from my need-based aid, of course) when I did not have a single real leadership position in high school :)

To add to my previous post: last year was the first time that the Anniversary Scholarship was awarded. In the year before, Bryn Mawr reported non-need-based aid awards totaling $522,372. Last year, with the new scholarships, it was $622,482. That means that there are either very few scholarship recipients or most scholarships replace need-based aid.

In any event, you should be very proud of yourself. I am sure the scholarships were well-deserved!!! I hope that you will consider coming to Bryn Mawr!

I also received the scholarship - just wondering who told you the info would be available next week?

I got the scholarship also. Bryn Mawr said more info would come with our admission packets that are being mailed out this week, which means most of us will get the information sometime next week.
