I am in a pickle.... I really want a powerbook but thats far too expensive so i am willing to settle for the Ibook....however i am also thinking about a dell inspiron.. which one will be better?

Hmmm...I just got my Powerbook in the mail and I have to say that adjusting to Mac OS X is one of the easiest things to use in the world! If I were you I'd wait a few weeks to see if Apple updates the iBooks since they're long overdue for an upgrade. But, about the Powerbook being expensive-- Apple has the education discount and a 100 dollar rebate out for students (main reason why I bought a PBook now) here's the link to the rebate http://education.apple.com/students/go/save/ .

I know a few friends that have inspirons, they're quite happy with their purchases but they seem to complain about them being too heavy compared to other notebooks.

Good Luck!

You should really ask this in the Cafe or High School Life.

I would go with the Inspiron out of those two, but I would actually get the Thinkpad T series, which is competitively priced. Which inspiron are you looking at? There is a big price range.

Also, about weight, there is a big range for that, too. It really depends on the model.

the problem is ...the powerbok at michigan costs 2300$ and then -100 for the mail in rebate. a good dell would cost me at most 1800 $, so this is why I am having a real dilema.

Wow, which powerbook are you looking into? the 15 inch model? or the 17inch? I'm looking at the apple website now and I was able to configure the 15inch with 100GB HD, the Superdrive (DVD burner) and 512 ram (Which is SUPER overpriced, it's so easy to upgrade RAM yourself, if you need me to I'll do it when we're in Mich lol) for $2024 + taxes - $100 rebate. It's expensive but, Mac Products have a much longer longevity compared to PCs and are very dependable! Don't need to worry about viruses and such.

Also if you're worried about the protection plan let it be known that you don't need to buy it at the same time-- you have to buy it within the first year to extend those 2 more years for repairs and such.

i am looking at the 15 inch model. i have cut out the apple care, as i would buy that later but still if i decide to get office for apple, it comes out to be quite expensive. IM me please at torreroloko...

My brother owns a Dell Inspiron 600M, and I just recently got a 700m.

700m-sturdier than my brothers, more powerful, clearer screen....negative is that the keyboard is ****ing miniscule....like a 12 inch wide screen..very small and portable

600m-I think it has a 15 inch screen? Im not sure...but overall it is also pretty portable and i love the keyboard.

I got my 700m for a fantastic deal...$750 off any system $1499 or up. I built it up so that it would have normally costed $1666, and I paid (well, my parents :) ) only $949

This was the third time this year that dell ran this deal and each time its been a success...so if you're willing to be patient and look out for these deals you might save a bundle

I would go with an ibook, especially if you want to live in the dorms. Viruses go around the residence halls a lot, and it's nice to know you will always have internet access when many of your friends and neighbors don't. It's no fun trying to battle for a spot in the computer labs.

You should be able to find an ibook quite cheaply, especially if they have a rebate, using the student discount. Buy through Apple instead of the UM Computer Showcase.
