I’m currently a sophomore and got my score earlier today for the May SAT I took. I got 1530 (730 Reading, 800 Math, 8/7/8 Essay). To my knowledge from reading forums, colleges see the difference between a 1530 and 1600 as negligible and such a difference usually isn’t looked at too heavily. I’m planning to apply to UCB, UCLA, MIT, and some ivies, as I plan to do something STEM related in the future (looking into either the engineering or maths fields); do you think retaking the SAT is a good idea? Thanks in advance.
No. Not at all. Well done.
EDIT: Don’t forget the subject tests, but I’m sure you’re already aware of that. Ideal time to take them is junior year, but it seems to me you’re very ambitious so ideal times don’t matter much to you haha. Either way, prepare well and you’ll be finished with testing. Good luck!
SAT 1530 is a very good score and is above admission average of most top schools. Unless you are aiming at merit scholarships at top public colleges, you should not retake it.
I can’t believe we’ve reached a point where people score a 1530 on the SAT and worry that it’s “not good enough”

The time to take subject tests is when you take the subject, not junior year. For example, if you just took U.S. history and you’re interested in that subject test, study over the summer and take it in the fall. If you want Math II, take it after precal.
@Sportsman88 I only mentioned junior year because many take courses like AP Chem, AP Bio, Precal, etc during that year. But yes, this clarification is important.
I’ll be taking Linear Algebra and Differential Equations Junior year so I will attempt Math II August. This was my plan if I don’t choose to retake the SAT I.
Linear algebra and diff eqs won’t help you on any SAT.
