1580/1600 SAT, 3.85 UW GPA, waitlisted at GWU?

I have a LOT of extra curricular activities...why? was there some fatal flaw in my application that i'm not aware of? my recs were really good and my essays were more than fine...what happened

by the way, my exact SAT isn't a 1580, its + / - 10 points, i dont like to list my exact stats

colleges can be random sometimes. They might have been afraid that you considered them as a safety

so yea, don't sweat it

Tufts Syndrome.

tufts syndrome?

the schools that i listed that i applied to on the GWU application were Brown, Oberlin, Vanderbilt

Yield protection is an admissions practice where a university or academic institution rejects or wait-lists highly qualified students on the grounds that such students are bound to be accepted by more prestigious universities or programs and thus almost certainly would not enroll, thus increasing the yield rate and lowering the acceptance rate. Yield rate refers to the proportion of students who matriculate (i.e. accept an admissions offer and attend the college) after acceptance to a college. Yield and admitted rates are of concern to academic institutions because they are sometimes considered as factors in annual school rankings.

Yield protection is sometimes called Tufts Syndrome,[1], though Tufts University is certainly not the only school accused of implementing yield protection, and anecdotal evidence suggests that yield protection may no longer be practiced at Tufts.[citation needed]

i don't get it. why wouldn't they take me. what if my parents were hard on money and i want to see if i can get a lot of scholarship$?

they wouldnt take you because they want to be able to say they let in X percent of kids.

i'm furious

You know you didn't have to list where you were applying? I bet this is why you were waitlisted. (Even though they say it won't be used against you, etc.)

Chill out. Space is going to be a huge factor this year as we are the biggest applicant class ever. They're not going to accept a kid with a 1580 who is not all that likely to accept admission. You have a great shot at all of your other schools. Just remember there is a kid out there who got accepted with lower stats, fewer ECs, etc. whose dream school is GWU (and who is more likely attend than you are.).

Okay, now this waitlisting business is getting ridiculous....Donatejimmy: IF you really want to go to GWU, you need to have your GC call on your behalf (and I thought the Lehigh results were insane...)

same thing happened to me. tufts syndrome. im really mad but watever, i wasnt considering GWU that much anyways to tell u the truth. not sounding bitter or anything, thats actually the truth.

they prob. used the "other schools i applied to" questio nagainst me..even though they say they wont.

if your parents were hard on money, GWU would be the last place to go, considering that it is the most expensive university in the country

im furious too
i feel your pain like no other
yield should not matter

The same thing happened to me?! Not that I wanted to go there, but I can't believe I didn't get in! The other schools I listed weren't that impressive either? Hopkins, University of Maryland, and American University. GW wouldn't really be considered a "safety" to ANY of those schools.

lol I'm actually embarrassed to say I got denied.

your fatal flaw was probably put that youve also applied to schools like Brown where they probably think you could get into and would go to if you did.

i'm just being a selfish prick

you guys are right, sorry

lol don't worry about it, I don't think you're being selfish. I don't understand either. I'm sorry you didn't get in though, you definitely seem like you deserve it.

you guys don't even know if this is tufts syndrome, theres no justification for other people to be outraged.

It's most likely just a case of admissions randomness.

just let them know that you really want to go there and they aren't just a safety and then they will probably take you off the waitlist

With holistic admissions it seems as though schools are literally accepting or rejecting "you" as a person rather than just a set of numbers. I can see why you are taking it somewhat personally. Anyways, best of luck with the other schools.
