1590 SAT but 16/24 essay... Advice?

Hey guys,

I got a 1590 on the December 7 2019 SAT. However, I only got a 16 on the essay (I started on the wrong page, had to erase it all and rewrite. I got in 1 intro, 1 conclusion, and 3 body paragraphs with 2 quotes and analysis each. However, my handwriting became somewhat sloppy.) I got a 20 on the essay last time. Any advice on what I should do? Also, what is the minimum SAT Essay score for schools like UC Berkeley and other UCs, Stanford, Ivy leagues, USC, Carnegie-Mellon, MIT, etc?

Non issue. Congrats on the great score.

Make sure the rest of the story comes together, it’s equally important.

Best of luck.

Thanks, I appreciate it

How many of your schools require/use the essay? How many will not superscore the previous result?

Even when required, essay scores are a pretty minor factor.

Right. The first question isn’t to poll us. It’s to check whether your targets require that portion.

Yes.

But now make sure that you understand what top colleges look for. It’s more than stats and some ECs. You can usually find this"more" info on their web sites, sometimes on addl sites where they discuss admissions- but the college, not some 3rd party. Be willing to tweak, if you need. Plenty of time.

Appreciate the advice

Congrats on the great SAT! Send it in – colleges will not care about the SAT essay (and 16 is fine anyway).

Hey. I got a 1590 SAT on the Dec 7 2019 SAT (790 RW, 800M) but I only got a 16/24 on the essay (I wrote it on the wrong page, had to erase and rush to finish. Handwriting got quite sloppy. I had an intro and conclusion and 3 body paragraphs. Each body paragraph had 2 quotes and 2 Analysis). The 1st time I took the SAT I got a 20 on the essay. Any advice on what to do? What essay score is needed for ivy leagues and schools like Berkeley, UCs, Stanford, USC, Carnegie-Mellon, MIT, etc? Help would be very appreciated.

Thank you for the advice
