I am a 16 year old girl and I'm applying for fall 2012 terms. I am a senior in high school: I've always been younger. And, I'm mature, confident, and frankly, my age doesn't bother me at all. No one ever guesses that I'm 16 and are usually shocked. I have 18 year old friends and I'm an outgoing, fun loving girl. I just got an email from one of my colleges that said I would get restricted from college activities, and can't live on the school campus because I am 16. I'll be turning 17 in october of 2012. It still doesn't count though. Is this going to keep happening? I think it is really unfair, it's not like I've been home schooled or anything. I spend my entire life with older people, I know what's wrong or right. It really is just making me quite upset. Do a lot of colleges have this rule?

I don’t think this restriction applies to all colleges. . . it is a rather strange rule. Don’t take my word for it, though.

I hope you receive a helpful response from a person with more knowledge about this topic!

Wow, I haven’t heard of that before. I’m almost exactly like you, only just a little bit older - I’ll be 17 in April. I would talk to the admissions office about that because I would think there would be some appeals process or something, especially if your parents approve and/or teachers testify to your maturity. But I haven’t heard of this rule before… Hope other schools aren’t the same way.

Hopefully someone else can be more helpful, but I’ll definitely be thinking good thoughts for you! :)

thanks for the replies. i never expected it. it’s somewhat depressing.
