Age

Does age matter during college applications?

Well, if you're in the typical age range for an undergraduate college at applying (basically, 17/18) it really shouldn't be a problem. Being considerably younger (14/15) at the time of application would make the admissions board wary and skeptical, and I don't know what are the effects of being older, though I would guess you need a reasonable cause for why you're so old.

^Agreed. A student who is graduating early has to prove themselves TWICE. First off that they deserve to go and secondly that they are mature enough to live on their own and handle college.

Most kids stumble over the second hurdle.

What about 16?

I came from a different country in primary school and instead of being held back I kept going, my birthday's in '91

Will you be 16 when you graduate? Because that's early.

Nah, I'll have just turned 17 since my birthday is in february, my brother will be 16 though :P

I think 17 will be ok. I have friends who turned eighteen in college, although they were eighteen in the September and November following matriculation.

Yea, 17 should be fine, I mean I turned 18 in September, though I know one girl who turned 18 in March of freshmen year, and she was fine.

So 16 is like, " You're very young to go to college, but you don't have to prove you're mature"

It depends on whether or not you skipped a grade or two. Did you start early or has your education been accelerated? Because graduating at 16 is graduating a full year to two years early.

A friend of mine skipped a grade and went to Princeton. He did turn 18 until after the end of freshman year.

16 shouldn't be a big deal at all... i'll be 16 during the whole process, i jsut started kindergarden early. 15 may raise eyebrows.

At 16 you might need to rein in possible helicopter parents a bit more than an 18 year old, to prove you could do it yourself. But unless they get a call from your parents, I think they'll assume you are mature enough.

What about 20?
