so i just added an extra course to my 15 hour schedule, and i'm wondering if i'll be overdoing myself my first semester of college. Here's my course load:

English 161-normal english class (3 hours)
Chem 112-Regular chem track (5 hours, lab and lecture)
Anthropology 101- World Cultures (a requirement for the med program i'm in; 3 hours)
Hon 140- Bio/Medical Ethics (3 hours)
Hon 101-Honors Seminar (1 hour)
Math 210- Calc III (this is the one i'm kinda iffy about; 3 hours)

I haven't taken calc since AP Calc BC junior year, so i'll probably have to look over some stuff before hand. I don't have any part-time job, but I am interested in volunteering/research of some sort. would it be best to just wait and take the calc 3 course next semester?

Its on the heavy side for your first semester, I would take out either Anthropology or your Bio Ethics class. If this was your schedule for second semester, I would say its fine, but for now I feel its better to take a light load and focus on getting used to college.

Med Program? Do you mean medical school? If so, then you need to keep your GPA up as high as possible. A couple of B’s could make a big difference. Stick to 15 credits. This is not high school any more. Check the sequences, do you need Calculus as a prerequisite for something else? That will help to decide whether to leave the calculus class for next semester, or the ethics.

Keep the schedule, but with the plan to drop the class that you like the least/will be least useful.

Also, you really don’t need to know a lot of stuff from BC calc to do good in Calc III. I also did AB/BC in junior year, and I took calc III freshman year of college, and I did fine. Most of the stuff built on stuff from AB calc…it might be a little helpful to review that

thank you so much for your responses. i really appreciate it

2bizee–it’s one of those ba/md programs, but i’ll need calc III to take p-chem later for my major. i guess my reasoning to take it now is because it hasn’t been that long since my last calc class.

theespys69-- if you don’t mind me asking, what was your course load like for freshman year?
