Is taking Bio I w/ lab, chem I w/ lab, Cal I, and ENG too much for a freshmen. Since these courses are also pre-med.
any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. thanxs...

depends, do you -think- you can handle it? if you can take them, by all means take them, just do well.

Thats basically my sched for next year first semester freshmen year. Except I am taking Chem, Bio, Intro Computing, Writing, and Orientation to Engineering. Taking Calc in the summer, its gonna be hell, but manageable.

I was thinking about taking cal I over the summer, so i can have time for my other classes. so u think its a normal load? are you taking your cal at a cc or university?

What is ENG?

ENG- an intro english class

That's fine. I took Cal III (multivariable calculus), Intro Bio w/ lab, Gen Chem Honors w/lab, and an English class my freshman year at Cornell.

That would be 4 + 3 + 5 + 4 = 16 hours at U of I. That might be too much science and math for one semester. Think about high school and think about what classes you've taken at the same time. Have you ever had more than two science or math courses at the same time? How did you handle that?

If you handled it, think of how well. Very well? Just barely? How much time do you need to study? A lot? A little? Read the next four questions and answer them truthfully.

1) Do you study?
2) Do you know how to study?
3) Do you do your homework well and on-time?
4) Does it take a lot to overwhelm you?

If you answered no to any of the last 4 questions, you might want to rethink taking that many classes. Learning how to study and to be prepared that rapidly after skipping through high school almost never works out.

College will be much harder than high school and much more time needs to be devoted to each subject. With lab reports, bio write-ups, english papers, and problems for math. That can add up to a lot.

I took adv chem, calc, psych, and an honors course which amounted to 18 hours. If you try it good luck, it will teach you needed study skills right away. If not, don't slack off b/c it still won't be easy but you'll have more time to devote to each class.
