Who thinks these policies in the states are totally stupid? You are man enough to got o war at 18, but you cant drink a beer. Is college life similar to this? Is it as pathetic. What colleges have these policies?

yes its totally ilogical, how can you be 18 and go to war and have 21 to drink, come on, some ilogical rules.

drinking age is not logical on the states, nothing is logical there even driving! if you exceed the speed on the street you go to jail come on :-O :S

you go to jail for speeding?

If you go 25 mph above the speed limit, they can arrest you (in Florida, at least). But I know multiple people who have been clocked at like 40-50 mph over and weren't jailed, so it really depends on the circumstances and one's attitude I think.

the age of concent is 14 in colombia, you're in no place to throw stones about age restrictions...

The age of consent is 14 in many places around the world.

does that make it right?

I just think that the drinking age and recruitable (for war) age should all be equal. If they will allow you or even, if worse comes to worse, go out and be able to recruit you at a certain age, you should be able to pick what you consume.

In my neck of the woods the legal drinking age is only 19...and it's as low as 18 in other provinces in Canada. 21 is stupid. Unless, of course, the States wants to recruit 21 year old soldiers.
Basically I agree with WatchMeShine.

the army makes exceptions in war for soldiers

beefs, i know that but i just think thats stupid especially if they ever reinforce the draft. if you can go to war and theyll "allow" you to die, you should be able to pick what you want goes into your body.

nice Canucker =D

Another one of those threads...

Young adult males (18-21) are the most reckless demographic in American (and most nations') society. This makes them a combination of a) great warriors (unafraid of dying, willing to give their all to their country) and b) very terrible drinkers (binge drinking, willing to risk their own life drinking and driving, thus endangering others, etc). It's just cold, hard logic. The same quality that makes 18 year olds unfit to drink is the same quality which makes them fit to serve in the armed forces.

i understand "18 war, 21 voting" reform as it was before Nam...that made alot of sense. How can you die for your country but not have the ability to vote for the men who "command" you?

But the military and drinking...not really connected.

Maybe it's not really connected in a sense, but you have to admit that if you are deemed physically and mentally capable of participating in armed combat, you are fit to drink alcohol.

Gryffon, your point is excellent. I could not agree more.

Drinking age? In Switzerland? 16? YES! :p

If you want to buy hard stuff you have to wait until you're 18 though!
