I am going to be double majoring in Creative Writing and Elementary Education, and I was wondering if it would be too hard for me to take 19 credit hours, or if I should just take some summer courses instead?

Thanks

If your school is on a semester system, then 19 credits is doable, since I’ve done it before at community college. If your school is on a quarter system, then I wouldn’t recommend that until you get used to the pace.

It depends on the classes you’re taking not solely the number of credit hours.

I am currently taking 19, you should be fine. Your possible work schedule is a factor though.

Anytime you’d like to take a more difficult schedule but you’re not sure whether you can handle it, it may be worth trying it out to start a term with a backup plan in case it really is too difficult. In that case make sure to know all the deadlines for switching in and out of courses.

I’m taking 21 units this quarter, and it was a bit jarring at first but I think I’m settling in. I’ve just found that I need to be more organized about knowing deadlines and diligent about getting work done when there’s nothing due for a few days. You also need to be realistic about where the time for extra school work is going to come from and whether you’re prepared to make that sacrifice.
