1900s (March) to 2100s (October)?

I just got my SAT scores back for the March 2011 exam. In order of least to greatest, I had 520 Math, 650 Critical Reading, 730 Writing. Was disappointed because I had been getting at least 50 points higher in each of those sections, consistently... Very strange and I obviously did not achieve my predicted 2050.

My targeted goal is at least a 2100, hopefully 2150ish. Is this plausible for someone who is relatively gifted in English and has always struggled with Math?

By the last time I take the SAT I want at least:

Low to mid 600s in Math
Low to mid 700s in CR
Mid to high 700s in Writing

Any tips for improving CR score when I've been scoring high 600s low 700s range? More importantly... What can I do to improve my math section??? Any suggestions welcome.
Any books that are good for LEARNING the math material?

Of course, this is all assuming I put in the necessary amount of effort, which I'm up for. Thanks.

^I’m in the same boat as you. I didn’t make my projected scores, even the ones given out by the PSAT. I got a 212 PSAT (76 CR, 61 M, 75 W), so I was projected to get 1940-2230, and I expected to break 2000.

However, I only got a 1930 (710 CR, 560 M, 660 W). That was surprising, because I’m pretty good at CR and writing, usually.

@OP: For the CR, does your difficulty lie more with the vocab or passage-based questions? For the math, do you run out of time, or do you not know the material? (For me, it was both!)

Those questions can help you figure out what to do. For the math section, if you’re running out of time, taking timed practice tests can help. If you don’t know the material, the Blue Book contains the fundamentals, and there are other books, too. I hope that we get some good recommendations!

ill help you with math, you help me with writing…lol. I got a 740 in math, 640 in writing (my lowest!)

So with the math I just recommend PRACTICE!! They test a lot of similar concepts over and over again. Reading is also important. Make sure to understand what the question is asking. I also do not like to look at the clock while working on the math until the middle-end. If your doing it right from the beginning you are subconsciously getting extremely nervous and might feel rushed.

When taking the math portion do you struggle with finishing? Just the hard questions?

@flashpoint,

For CR, I usually get 1 vocab question wrong in each section. Sometimes two if it’s a really tough section. And it’s strange because for the actual reading, I almost always get the hardest ones right, and I’ll have trouble with some of the mediums…

For math, honestly, I just don’t know all of the material.

@needshelp (don’t we all!),

Again, I struggle with the actual material, not finishing it. As for helping you with writing, I always felt like there are maybe 10 or so basic concepts that if you understand you can get every question right. Maybe it’s just because I read a lot… But I do think that if you looked around for a decent writing review book, you could boost your score by at least 100 points in no time.

Still though… Any specific recommendations for scoring higher in math???
