Or maybe you'll see them crying...

Well cadet, maybe so. But if someone with your character and sensitivity can make it through, perhaps a few others have a chance as well.

Do you think, perhaps, the parents posting on this board are apprehensive enough without your attitude?

Welcome back AFDAD and Good Morning
How was Colorado? How are you holding up?

Thanks! We are holding up very well. I-day was truly bittersweet. No question we're missing Benjo6 terribly. It's so hard not being in contact. I find the AOG website to be a great comfort. We feel like we know a little about what's going on -- even though I know it's really only a glimpse. I encourage all to sign-up. Those folks are doing a great job and it's well worth it. Even if much of the site is free, I feel it's important to support this group. Heard that about 30 didn't get off the bus or quit during the first day. Wow!

AFDAD2010...How did you find that out?

I saw a cadet walk out of formation during the oath ceremony on one of the video clips. I figured it was a medical issue since I saw older cadets enter a row between new cadets that remained at attention.

I agree with AFDAD about the AOG parent membership. I could not put a price on the chance to see a pic of our son during BCT. Following the Web Guy's comments has been very informative. I print the daily schedule and keep in a binder to document BCT. I had a very special moment Sunday morning. We are on Eastern Standard Time which is two hours later than our cadets. Even though our son was not with us at our church, the cadets were in worship at the same time. How powerful is that!

Anyway, another funny thing happened sunday morning in our house. I routinely get up first before telling the boys to get in the shower. I woke the 16 yr old up first. Being a typical teen, he did not want to get up first. Without thinking, the 16 yr old said "Come on Mom, can't you get Chris or Eli up first?" We both paused and laughed when he realized Chris was not here.

I also took the leaf out of the kitchen table and moved two chairs to the basement. It is a visual reminder that our boy is gone. :(

"I print the daily schedule and keep in a binder to document BCT..."

Cool idea, momof3boyz

MarathonMom: A firstie told us that while we waited for the swearing in ceremony. He was very informative about what was going on, including where to look for our son. We got a big smile from him when he walked by us -- which was a moment I'll nver forget!

That's really going to the source. :) I wish I could have stayed the extra day to see the swearing in ceremony. I'm glad you got see your son (especially with that big smile) It confirms that he made the right choice for him. How comforting...

AFADAD, you said you heard that about 30 have already quit. How did your source know that number?

Some cadre members have access to those numbers.

That seems to be the case. By the way, check out the clips on this page. Takes awhile to load them (clips one to ten) The human side of things was great to see:

Hi! Is anyone having trouble with getting the Web Guy's clips to open quick? There were many of them that I had to wait several minutes before they would even open. It took me a long while to get through all of the dates posted. It was a little disappointing as I didn't see my son in any of the pictures or clips. The thing though, all the guys look the same, so maybe I'm passing him right by.

Hi usafamom,
Welcome to CC.
Same here. Keep looking you wil get lucky.
Actually I can only see the clips as still photos not as video.
I also Pour through the PICs day and night and still still don't see my girl.
I am thinking, she should look different than the other Basics, so I can spot her easily. But not yet.

There is still plenty of time and will be in more contor situations in Jacks Vally. and I am sure he will make the effort to try and take pictures from all squadrons at one time or another. I open the clips by right clicking and opening in another window so I don't have to go back and forth. I open all at the same time so it gets loud when they actually come on after a few minutes. but I go back and watch each individually. Even though I have not seen my son it is nice to see what they are learning. They are getting good a marching.

I couldn't see the clips either. I have QuickTime on my computer, but a prompt came up saying that some QT software was needed that was not available on-line. Don't really know what that means, since I would presume everything is available on-line.

You could do that and see if it opens. You could also change the extention
to format recognized by one of your other media players. I have a mac and bought the pro version of quicktime. I am not sure there is even a pro version of quicktime for Windows PC's. But you can work around by changing the extention..
