I hope I'm putting this in the right section. Sorry if I'm wrong!

So, I'm a senior this year, but I'm without an English class. I took a Dual Enrollment English course last year, and the elective english courses won't fit into my schedule (very small school so scheduling gets pretty tight). Basically, I want to get familiar with books or works that would commonly appear in college (Enlgish major btw). Can anyone suggest works or authors that I should get familiar with?

Thanks a million guys!

I think the problem with this question is that the reading lists at colleges are extremely varied. At least my school, taking an English class typically entails taking a class that focuses on literature of a particular time period or by a particular author (or perhaps, centered around a particular theme or genre, like popular literature, science fiction, etc). There aren’t commonly read texts like there is in high school because it’s all so extremely varied. Even in freshmen English classes, students read incredibly varied texts depending on what the topic of their class was about.

If you’re interested in just reading more books, I’d recommend reading common “classics” that you may not have read or texts by other well known authors. You could also see if you can find booklists for college English courses at the schools you’re interested in (at my school, anyone could access the booklists, for example, not just students). There are also lists of books that “everyone should read” made by a bunch of different people that you could use as a list of good or “important” books to read. Or you could just read whatever you like.
