Books that are to be read before going to college

Hi! Can any of you post a list of recommended books we should have read by entering in college, or the ones your English teacher talked to you about in high school? (I'm asking this because I'm an international student and I would like to have a better idea of what is supposed to be read in high school in USA). Thank you! :)

ps: if you would like to add some books you read and liked, feel free to do so ;)

Here’s one such list:

Back in the day, I heard a lot about reading lists for college-bound students, but they seem to have been de-emphasized in recent years. When I was in high school, we had required summer reading lists, including one the summer before freshman year. Typically, these included about 6 books. When I look at recent lists for my high school and similar schools, they still have summer reading lists, but the number of books is down to about 2-3. Also, my lists focused on classics; now the lists include many more recent books.
