Hello there! This is my first post since discovering College Confidential. I want to go Notre Dame. I am applying to only two other schools (UW-Madison and Marquette University....I'm not excited about either of them) because I really want to go to Notre Dame. This Tuesday, I am driving down to Milwaukee to attend an imformation session. Here's what I have:
4.1 uw GPA
Ranked 9/240 (top 4%)
SAT Scores: 730 CR, 590 M, 660 W (I just am not good at math)
Main E.C.s: President of Student Council (very involved in student council...6 hours a week...also hold statewide officer position), President NHS, Captain of Pom Pon Squad (big time committment..perform at all home footbal and basketball games and various competitions),varisty forensics, volunteer at hospital and retirement village, link crew, SADD, german club, job as a lifeguard and at golf course over the summer.
Great recommendation from english teacher/forensics coach. I am also going to attach a recommendation from my Student Council advisor b/c we are very close and he knows my leadership skills well.
I think my essay is pretty good...it is about living and growing up in a small town. I would love to have someone read it but I do not know how send private messages.

Oh boy....that's far too long. I appreciate you taking time to read that small novel of a thread. What I really want to know is what you think my chances are. I really, really want to apply EA because I don't think I can wait until April, but I don't want to take an unnessecary risk. I am proud of what I have done in high school...the thing that bothers me is my SAT math. Does my SAT math disqualify me from any chance of being admitted to Notre Dame , EA or otherwise? Thanks,
Linsey

ull get into madison and marquett, actuallly marquett will prolly give u a LOT of merit aid, whcih could be preety nice. Notre Dame, well its a tough school, but it seems like u fit the stats, so y not, i woudlnt count on it but its def a match. y r u applying to so little schools?

Your SAT will hurt. How much...I really don't know. But a 590 is really not going to impress them. Your ECs seem mediocre to good but nothing special. You could get in, but maybe you won't.

And I would tell you that you need to find other schools you'd love to attend too...settling isn't good, and I think you could just as easily be rejected as accepted.

Linsey: Your stats are good, but your 590 SAT is low. You need to take the SATs again and bring that one up. You also need to find a "safety" school that you like and think you will get into. You can't put all your eggs in one basket, and ND is very hard to get into. Do some more research and look into other schools. Did you ever think about Saint Mary's? Close to ND, and with your stats you not only should be able to get in, but might get some scholarship money. I'm slighly prejudiced, being a SMC grad, but it's a great school where you can still take advantage of a lot that ND offers. Think about it.

Thanks guys! To answer your question, my GPA is on a 4.0 scale. The highest possible is a 4.33, because an A+ is worth more points. I believe the #1 person in my class has around a 4.2. I've decided to take the ACT this Saturday and I am hoping for a 30. Would that be considered better than a 1320?
The comment that surprised me was the one about my e.cs....I thought my e.c.s were one of my strong points, but maybe not. Thanks.

One way to get to the "private message" function: click on the blue "Private Messages" near the upper right-hand corner of your screen.

That takes you to a page where new and old messages can be accessed.

To send a private message, click on "Send New Message" in the column on the left-hand side of the screen at the "Private Messages" page. This will open a new page with space for your message.

In fact, I sent you a private message--so you can have some practice now if you wish.

Good advice from UVa on essay writing is at:

I think you have a decent shot but I definatley would not sit there comfortably since you are under the ND SAT average, which is especially not helpful if you don't have something like legacy going for you. I definately would recommend taking the SAT again and trying to get the math up. A 30 SAT is about a 1340 I believe so I don't think a 30 will help too much. I just would give the tests another try because they could make the difference. Good luck!
