For the supplement that asks about the different factors you want to apply to Barnard, I want to write about how I grew up in a patriarchal church for at least a portion of my essay, but is this too risky since I’m criticizing Christianity/my church? Thanks in advance!
No topic is too risky so long as you handle it well. The key is to write well and be genuine. Anything that distinguishes you from others is to your advantage.
I’m not sure how your background story has anything to do with the prompt. How does criticizing the way you were brought up convince an adcom that you should be accepted to Barnard?
@sadovaya Thanks - I started writing it but I went in a different direction. Thank you for the response, though!
@bjkmom I was thinking that I could lead it into a desire to be at a women’s college, but I’m not writing about the topic anymore, I don’t think. But thank you for the response!
OK good.
Because “a woman’s college” isn’t the topics-- it’s about Barnard in particular.
Good luck!
