I have two supplementals that I love but I fear may be too out there. One is for Tufts, the other for Barnard.
My Tufts supplemental is about a certain actress not getting the recognition she deserves despite having worked even harder than her male contemporaries (its the “what are you passionate about” question)
My Barnard supplemental is about a niche but well known animated character (this is for the “what woman would you like to talk to”).
I know this question is sort of last minute but any input would be nice. I feel like I can justify the “why” for both of these questions pretty well but I fear that the actual concept is a little too much.
IDK about the Tufts, but for my Barnard supplement, I did Sophie Scholl for the main reason that I would have so many questions for her.
Neither topic is particularly strong.
i’m not super worried about strength bc i find that no matter what, all my options will be around the same strength. im just worried that the lightness of the topics themselves will be a deterrent.
FWIW, when we were at a Barnard admissions info session about a year and a half ago, the (male) AO doing the session specifically warned the potential applicants in the room not to write the “which woman in history/literature” essay about a Disney princess. Not sure if your niche-but-well-known animated character is from Disney…
@Itisatruth I’m sure that he just meant for it to mean don’t write about your favorite character just because you like them (unless they’re from literature). But yeah I’m pretty sure an animated character doesn’t fall along those lines
My D20 wrote about a movie character that works in a field she is interested in, and she got into Barnard ED. I think as long as it is substantive, it can be appropriate.
I’ve decided to change my topic for that essay. Thank you for the input! My original idea was going to be to write about Elastigirl, if that matters (people know about her but I doubt many consider her their favorite character, hence why I said niche-but-well-known).
