Regarding the SAT II Writing Essay, I have three or so questions:

Is it okay to have only 2 examples?

Is it okay to use the quote that they sometimes give you, such as one by Sophocles or something?

Is it okay to be a little blatant when you say something, such as this: "The worst pain is the kind that we inflict on ourselves. The veracity of this claim is supported by yada yada yada." Is it okay to go right out and say "this is true because..."?

Zant will probably reply to this too and say her advice is better as she beat my 760 but whatever!

-I would personally go with three as it is easier. I would recommend choosing a piece of literature with multiple themes and characters, something broad from history, and a personal experience (essentially any event in your entire lifetime). You can pick examples from these three sources in a three-body-paragraph format that I think works pretty well.

-I'd explain the implications of the quote instead of restating it

-Sometimes circumventing superfluous verbosity can be inherently advantageous. No but really, sometimes getting to the point is more efficient. The first time I tried taking the SAT2 Writing I didn't do too hot because my sentences were too longwinded.

I usually choose all my examples from literature. Is that okay? I don't know very much history, so that is hard, and I always have trouble with recounting personal experiences honestly, and when I'm not being honest, it shows in the writing. In literature, I find that there are so many things to choose from and you can use the insight of really good authors in your own essay. Is it okay to use only literature????

Also, I find that if I am going to use 3 examples, I have to start right away. Usually I take about 2 minutes to formulate the essay and 18 to write it. If its on something I already know well, then I can do it with 3 examples. However, in general, I find that using only 2 examples makes for a better written essay since I don't have to rush. Is it worth it to lose 1 example to have a slightly better written essay (meaning clearer, better vocab, etc.)?

Yes that would work just fine. Mainly I think they're just after a well-written essay in terms of structure and word choice. Using only literature would suffice.
