2.8 Top 5 LAC + 720 GMAT . Where to?

Great work experience (Private Equity).

What kind of schools can I apply to?

Thanks

All of them.

Could you elaborate? What do you think are my chances at top schools?

Thanks

Your chances are good enough to apply to all the top schools. Harvard/Wharton/GSB.

Obviously we can’t give you a “chance” because we don’t know what your experience was.

what’s the 2.8 referring to, your UG GPA?

You need more information to have a good evaluation. For example, all PE firms are not created equal. If you are at BX/KKR/TPG you are probably have your pick at H/S/W.

Other Questions: How much experience do you have at your PE firm? How much assets do you manage?

2.8 undergrad GPA. Private equity fund is one of the leaders in investments in environmental friendly types of investments and new energy ventures. Experience included work in emerging markets locations.

Doesn’t change the recommendation, honestly. I’d apply to all schools.

The only black mark is a 2.8 GPA. GPA is probably the least important of all the variables that come into play (especially if it’s from a top 5 LAC).

I think based on your WE, you should not apply for H/W, but for Stanford/Haas/Ross/McCombs, because those schools fits the sustainability model. I assume that’s your field of interest post-MBA.

Stanford and McCombs will probably be the two best options for you, since both have ties to the sustainability sector and VC. I think you’ll have a good shot at McCombs.

I disagree with Mr Payne about your GPA. While scores and GPA are not looked as strongly by bschool as other professional schools, a low one will raise eye brows on your ability to handle to course load. Your GMAT score will help alleviate some of that concern, but there are plenty of applicants in your situation, high GMAT and low GPA, hoping to use GMAT as a tie over.

I disagree. The GPA is from a top 5 LAC. A cause for concern, maybe, but certainly not enough reason to not apply to all the top schools.

I agree that it does not hurt to try. I just think effort should be focused on targeted schools, as bschool application process is time consuming not only for the applicant but also for the recommender. Thus I’ve suggested some schools (all top 20) that I believe will match sambouc’s background, which was his/her original question?
I don’t think blanketing top 3 schools is a good strategy for bschool admissions. Also, AdCom may only give a slight consideration at best to which UG the applicant attended.
