2 pages too long??

Is 2 pages too long for an essay??

It's going to be about 1000 words...too long?

it's so hard to determine how much exactly to write. i'm having this problem too. at first i wrote 1800 words. then i realised everybody says that it should be around 500. so i rewrote. but when i serve the net for sample college essays (like those who got accepted using those essays) i word counted the essays, some r 500+, some are around 1000, there was even a 1800! blah.

opps. spelling mistake. "surf the net"... just woke up lol.

Yes, two pages is too long. Think about it this way: You're an admissions counselor. You've read 60 applications today, and you have a pile of 200 more applications to get through. You open up a folder and see a 2 page, 1000 word essay. How warm & fuzzy will that make you feel towards the applicant? Now assume you see a short, concise, well-written 1 page essay. How will that make you feel?

Remember your audience, and edit, edit, edit! It is much harder to write a short essay than a long one; colleges also want to know that you can do it.

It's honestly hard to tell. Some colleges really use the essay as a guage of the student's character. They want to know as much as possible so they can make decisions. At other, more popular/large schools, a smaller essay is usually preferred.

hmmmmmmm

but okay....

like this one essay i'm writing is sort of in a "diary like" format, and there's like 4 entries, which means there's a lot of empty space for every paragraph.

It doesn't matter so much the format of the thing (double-spaced, a typical 500 page essay is 2 pages long anyway). If the word count is more than 750+ words or longer, cut it down if possible.
