2 questions. 1 about major/minor, 1 about scholarships

I want to do the Human Physiology program in Sargent College, hopefully going pre-med. Would I be able to get a minor in music at the College of Fine Arts too? I can’t find anything on the website about this kind of thing. I was thinking about majoring in music, but am waiting to hear back from a few people from the CFA about certain things…

The National Merit Finalist scholarship-- all you have to do is be a Finalist and choose BU as your #1 choice by like March and you get half-tuition as long as you show excellence in grades and stuff. Now, the University scholarship also gives you half-tuition but there’s no application or anything for it. Are you allowed to get both scholarships?

I don’t know Sargent’s rules but I think you minor in music through CAS.

As to the scholarships, I’m pretty sure you can get one 1/2 tuition thing but not two.

Yea, if you are going to get full tuition covered, they will usually give you everything at once and not as separate scholarships. If you get half tuition, they will usually acknowledge that you have money already from them and move on to helping the next person so that its fair, especially if the next guy is need based.

Thank you for your responses but I’m confused still. Lergnom, do you mean that you have to be in CAS to minor in music? As in, I can’t minor in music if I’m in Sargent?

And TheMan777, so they won’t give me both scholarships even if I qualify for both? That sucks. :frowning: I’m not trying to be greedy here: I can’t afford the place at all either. Eh it’s their money though so it is their decision.

Well - if you are need based, then you may still be able to receive grant money. Your total FA should be enough for you to reasonably pay, especially since you are such a good student (i am assuming).

What I meant is that I think the music minor is done through CAS, not through CFA, not that you can’t do it. But now you can check the CAS bulletin for info.

it depends on what kind of music minor you want to be…if just music, it’s CAS. if you want to minor in playing an instrument, i think it’s CFA

CFA says they have 3 music minors: 1 in performance, 1 in non-performance, and 1 in Education (I think). Thank you all for the help! It sounds like being in Sargent won’t prevent me from minoring in music, whether it’s through CFA or CAS.

I’m just vastly increasing my research on Boston University but from what I know your probaby limited to one or the other but not other scholarships offered at BU.

You should read the Bulletins to make sure the CFA minors are open to non-CFA people.
